Northeast - midnight rides in central park

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

just wondering if anyone'd be interested in 'organizing' riding at night in central park? a friend and i do this ride all the time (it's terrific since there's virtually no pedestrians, cars, or any interruptions outside of a stray raccoon once in a while), and the only thing we ever wish for is that there were more riders there at night.
most of the time this takes place during the weekend since as students, we're kinda killed with our sleep schedules, but if anyone on BF has any interest... let's hear it :)

thanks, i actually did, but it seems to just be random decisions to ride at night, i was hoping for maybe a slightly more organized thing, like on a weekly basis rather than on a whim.

NYCC has group led rides which I'm sure if you post regularly they would let you charter a NYCC ride for that specific time.
Other then that, i find it a bit too cold to ride CP passed midnight, then again the latest/earliest I've hammered the park was 4:30am and it was FREEZING lol

Actually, it is an organized ride. Did u go to their official website? It is the first of every month or last of every month. I forgot.

If you're interested in riding at a decent clip then the Central Park Moonlight ride won't be what you're looking for. I wouldn't mind riding at night but I'm in NJ so it's a hassle to get back after midnight, what time were you thinking of riding?

Park closes at 1am (and NYPD is diligent about getting everyone out), so "Midnight Ride" should be more like "evening ride".
As one who does 99% of their weekly mileage (on bike and foot for the past 4 years) in Central Park at night, after 9pm always, (and who cannot possibly conceive of riding in the early morning) I will say it's warmer at night in the winter (though still plan on freezing).

@vincentnyc thanks, didn't realize it was every month... but still it'd be nice ride with more frequency
@roadiejorge, really anytime after 10, when the roads are clear of 99% of the pedestrian population has gone to sleep already :) most likely on weekends
in retrospect, i guess this would make more sense to do in the spring, it's just something my friend and i have grown accustomed to doing
does the park really close at 1? i've been there doing loops as late as 3 am, and i even wave at the cops...

It does officially close at 1am but I too have ridden there well past that, though in fairness that was several years ago.
