Hi guys,
New here. I am currently looking for housing for the months of January and February for me and my best friend in So Cal. We are both professional Cyclists, I have recently returned from a long summer of racing full time in Belgium and my friend currently is racing for the Team Type 1 professional squad. As recent college graduates and serious athletes we are looking for quiet, safe, and affordable housing, and are willing to live in cramped quarters. Why are we coming out west you ask? New England is Cold. California is beautiful.
Many Thanks for any and all help, and Best regards.
Please pm or respond if you have any tips or potential space.

In addition to this site I would suggest posting here (http://www.socalcycling.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=1).
I would say Orange County is a good bet for a "safe" area. I'm thinking Irvine or Newport Beach area. I would imagine it is pretty cyclist friendly as well. It might be slightly more expensive but you really get what you pay for.

How long are you guys planning to stay? my roomate is thinking of moving out at Feb.
Orange county has some good roads for riding and I'd love to see some TT1 representation in the area, though it can get a bit pricey. Don't have many suggestions but *bump* and good luck ;)

Also, my wife and I are looking for a 3 bedroom house right now, but we won't need the 3rd bedroom until at least 9 months ;) so we'd probably be happy to rent it out.

in terms of maximum exposure to different environments of riding, it sounds like you gents would be best off in an area that has close proximity
to coastal, foothill & mountain riding (desert riding you're gonna have to go on a looong one or drive). in los angeles county-santa monica area.
in san diego county-escondido or eastern chula vista (by the u.s. olympic training center). orange county has some great hills
and excellent coast but not enough mountain (paved) roads for true diversity. regarding affordability in southern california-it's still ridiculously expensive.
generally, san diego county slightly more affordable than la/orange county. yeah, winter daytime temps are usually in the sixties (below 3,000 ft).
good luck & happy riding.

Sorry, I was a bit unclear. "At least" was meant to imply that we haven't succeeded yet. But we're trying!!!

Inland North County San Diego is your best bet for cheap and good/great cycling.
craigslist.com
Ramona, Temecula, Bonsall, Escondido, San Marcos, Valley Center, Fallbrook. Out of those, I'd say Escondido is probably the best located for either getting to the coast or heading to the mountains.

Some of the flop houses I've seen while searching for a house - literally, the hallway doors were boarded up, exterior doors added to every room, and closets had a toilet installed - tells me you're missing out on the perfect clients!

All that matters is that she thinks I know what I'm doing :thumb:
Well, the beautiful house we bid on last week sold for $35k more than we bid. Too bad, too. It had a spare room with a private entry to rent out to the cyclists, a pool, jacuzzi, and a wet bar by the pool!

If there's any room available I think San diego might be the key here. Everyone's been pretty helpful here. Thanks. We're looking for jan1- either feb or march.
and we can both fit in one room.

I don't know if you didn't see the PM I sent a week ago or were looking for something else, but the beachfront condo (Oceanside) is no longer available.

Often real estate agents double as rental agents.. there are some great cycling sites near Escondido... think it was Greg LeMond who trained on the grade coming out of the desert valley- west of Borrego Springs . You'll be pleased following his lead...
