Southwest - I'm in Seattle and I'm already tired of the rain

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

It's raining here and I want to come to Tucson to ride.
I wrote this forum before and got suggestions for Arizona bicycling books that show some great routes but they cover the whole state so there is not too much detail on any one area. Can anyone recommend favorite routes that explore the area south of Tucson? I have gone on bikely.com and it shows a ride from downtown to Sonoita that seems like a good one. There is another from Tucson to Madera Canyon. Is there any way connect these into a loop with an overnight in Sonoita?
I would like to make loops of about 50- 75 miles a day with an interesting overnight at a BandB or motel.
Thank you

Traitor - don't go to the desert, you'll shrivel up and die.

Madera Canyon ride ends on top of a mountain . . . no loop.
Ride to Tucson/Sonoita is fine and do-able.
Not an awful lot in motels or B&Bs.
Ride Tucson to Green Valley. Further south to Tumacacori and further yet to Nogales. Much of this would be on frontage roads by I-19.
Also ride from Sonoita to Bisbee area (some good climbing) or Sierra Vista to Bisbee or Tombstone and even down to Douglas.
Check out www.bikegaba.org for Tucson area rides and info.
Hope this helps.

Here is a good website for some rides all over Tucson of varying lengths.

I'm not all too familiar with riding from Tucson, but I ride now and then to Sonoita from Sierra Vista. They do have at least one inn there http://www.sonoitainn.com/, and maybe a B&B or two, not sure.

There are some nice rides around Sierra Vista if you want to make that your base for a day. Some favorites are direct out-and-backs or loops to Tombstone/Whetstone, Sonoita or Elgin/Ft. Huachuca (carry i.d.), Parker Canyon Lake, Palominas, and Bisbee.

Las Vegas is immune to rain. We only got 1.7 inches last year. No problem riding here, unless 115 degree heat is a problem.

I have family in Tumacacori and have done parts of this route when visiting them. It's very pleasant riding; shoulders are thin in many places but traffic is low. Mt. Hopkins road is a nice climbing side trip up from this route, but it's unpaved higher up.

Ironically, Arizona is getting pounded with heavy rain and snow this week and the Pac NW is getting a bunch of dry gales. It's as if we've switched places!
