While shopping around for a wheelset for an upcoming build, I stumbled across these on the Origin 8 site. I like how these hubs look and the idea of fewer bladed spokes. Info. on their site is pretty vague, but here are the specs:
http://www.origin-8.com/product_detail.php?short_code=TRACK+LITE+PRO&cl1=WHEELS
* 30mm Aero double wall welded rim
* 32h Sealed cartrdige bearing High Flange hubs
* 14/19g Bladed stainless spokes with brass nipples
* F 899g / R 1167g
* Flip Flop style body for fixed and freewheel setup
* custom machined high flange cutout hub shell
* Bearing size: 26 x 10 x 8mm front and rear
* rim tape included
Best price I found was at Velomine where they list more details in the description:
http://www.velomine.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=87_89&products_id=515&zenid=1in32l3krrfkm9495tcp7p4t50
The hubs appear to be made by Formula with custom machine work for Xero Lite & Origin 8
Hubs have a paired spoke drilling with normal drilling on the rims
The bladed spokes are marked with an X
28 spokes rear - 24 spokes front.
Since Velomine mentioned Xero-Lite, I thought they might be rebranded Xero wheels. Looking on Xero's site, the closest I could find is the Xero-Lite XR-200/XR-210 with similar hooking hubs but for 8/9/10 speeds and only 20 bladed spokes front/rear.

Has anybody seen these in person or have any more info. about them?

Doesn't somebody here have a white/yellow Bareknuckle with those wheels on it?

heavy for 24/28, even with Deep V's.
I would build the the hubs up with some Kinlin 27's
it's a nice concept for something different in the modern HF track hubset game, but i agree about the rims. i like the rear minus the white finish, probably i'd prefer a lighter, cutout LF road-style hub in the front, either with a 1x or radial lacing depending.
machining is probably done by xero (which iirc is affiliated with formula or dimension) custom for O8 and just isn't sold by them a la carte.

You're right, they are heavier than you'd expect. Despite fewer spokes, they weight about the same as standard factory-built Deep-V's.
... because what's the real difference in weight between <10 spokes per wheel (between this and a 32h)?
i think most of the weight in fg wheelsets is in the hub/axle, and it's not rotational weight.

im looking at wheels in the 1500 range, not he 2000 range. it can be done for sure for 400ish

A few spokes weigh almost nothing and a reduced spoke count only marginally reduces wheel weight. However, it is the best way to improve wheel aerodynamics.
The trick to light wheels has less to do with spoke count and more to do with choosing light rims, light hubs, and strongly butted spokes. Replace the heavy track front hub with a road hub, use Kinlin 30mm rims instead of Velocities or Weinmanns, and double butted spokes instead of straight, and you'll have a wheelset that is hundreds of grams less without dramatically increasing the cost or compromising strength.

this. i might mention for those who don't know that mihlbach has been riding on such a wheel build for some time— alloy nipples up front as well, if i recall.
for weight concerns there's really no great reason to use a front track hub, unless you just want your hubs to match. (SB did this in 1974 (http://sheldonbrown.org/brown/index.html)) there are enough quality road hubs with wide flanges and sealed bearings that are radial-approved which will save 100g or more on most track hubs.
also consider tire weight; you can still find a durable road tire in the 250g range.
most of the weight in a wheelset is in the rims, not the hubs.
you're absolutely correct, for example if you're thinking 400g/rim on a 1500g wheelset, then the rims account for more than half the weight.
what i was trying to get at (and was not clear enough) is, compared to a road wheelset, most of the weight difference of a fg wheelset is due to the hubs/axles, not the rims.

considering you are using non-aero rims that weigh 400g, that leaves you 700g for the hubs/axle and spokes/nipples. i think to get that weight you have to use a low flange front road hub.

Heres what my 205lb ass has has been riding (fast road riding) for a few years, with no problems...
Kinlin 30mm rims
Formula rear track hub
Forumula front road hub with bolt-on skewer
sapim cxray spokes
alloy nips in front, brass in rear
24 spokes radial up front, 28 spokes 2x in the rear.
Weight is close to 1500, cost was a little over $300.
options:
Front road hubs under 100gms are widely available for little money.
You can shave off at least $60 by using good db round spokes and only add a few grams.
Shallower Kinlin rims (19mm) will shave off at least 120 gms.
Novatec hub has hollow axle and ~60 gms lighter than a Formula.
If you are not a clyde, you can easily get away with fewer spokes with a deep 30mm rim...the weight loss will be marginal, but the aero gain will be significant.

Well this has been a good discussion on how to build a lightweight wheelset, but the question remains if anyone knows anything about this particular Origin8 wheelset beyond the vague specsheet?

That would be me. I have been very pleased with them, I don't have any complaints. I can't really compare them to anything other than dura-ace road wheels, so sorry that I am not of much use.

Thanks for speaking up. How long have you been riding on them, or how many miles? Did yours come with machined sidewalls? I've only seen the non-machined for sale.
Here are pics of his set:

Ive ridden them for about 2 months, not sure how many miles but a fair amount. The roads I ride vary a lot, so they have seen some rough roads and have held up great. Yeah I bought them with the machined sidewalls.

Yes, and as I recall it looked a lot like a ghost bike and had all orgin 8 components on it. Nice frame though.
I retract this statement, after seeing it again it doesn't have as much orgin 8 stuff as a remember and doesn't look as much like a ghost bike either. Did you change some stuff around? Still weird for a $750 frame to have an orgin 8 crankset and wheelset, but I'm definently not hating, it's a nice bike and I'm sure it rides 1000x better than mine.

the crankset was all i had money for while buiding it. I'm saving up right now for a new one, probably an omnium. And yeah I used to have white wrapped drops on it, but switched to the risers. I also used to have a different saddle. The wheelset and cranks were all the origin8 I've had on it though.
Triple8Sol, yeah you should be able to pull off the decals, I just didn't.
