I recently bought a Trek Navigator 100 (my first bike) and ordered a Blackburn Expedition EX-1 rack (http://www.bicyclebuys.com/Items01.asp?NavID=accessories&M=105&T=120). Problem is, it doesn't fit my bike very well... I think the rack is designed for road/touring bikes. In order to make it fit I have to wedge apart the rack mounting spurs (the pieces that hook onto the rear skewer EDIT: eyelets, not skewer) and create a lot of tension in the rack. Then to make the top bracket fit I'd have to bend the mounting brackets down at about a 45 degree angle to get them to hook on to the screws that Trek provides for this purpose, below the seatpost. I'm not comfortable with that.

Can anyone recommend a sub-$50 rack that fits the Trek Navigator? How about this one from Nashbar? (http://www.nashbar.com/profile_moreimages.cfm?category=112&subcategory=1079&sku=2264&brand=) It's adjustable.

Trek makes one that plugs into the "accessory port" fitting located behind the seat. My wife has one on her '04 Navigator 200, and it works fine. She also got the "interchange" rack pack that very easily snaps in and out, and is very secure. The rack was a little more than $50US, but we think it was worth it.

The rack is supposed to attach to the eyelets just above the skewer.

Oops, I misphrased my earlier post, should have said the eyelets, not the skewer. By wedging apart the bottom of the rack, I was able to attach the vertical rails to the eyelets, but the entire rack is then under a lot of tension.
