Mountain Biking - Gloves!

Full finger or half finger? What's your favorite brand? Padded palm or not? How often do you get a new pair? What has been your worse glove?

So i would have to say i like fox gloves the most, pretty much any model. They aren't super exspensive and last a really long time. Can't stand a padded palm. I feel like it gives me less sensitivity on the grip, granted i use some big fat oury grips. I ususally get a new pair as soon as i tear or destroy my current pair. I have had some fox gloves that have lasted me two plus seasons. Never have gotten more than one sason out of a pair of specialized gloves. Currently i am wearing a pair of specialized enduros. They look nice and all, but man do they wear out quick! and they're super exspensive! Sucks that i got them in August and will more likely than not need a new pair for next season....

Never tried giro, or 661, or anything else. Just fox and specialized.

This thread begs for a 'poll'.

I prefer some nice, light full fingered XC gloves for trails. Something lightly padded...not too much like the Trek gloves. Fox is good. Thor is good. Has to breathe well for hot summer trail rides.

I've gots some carbon-knuckled gloves for shredding, but they're about blown out. I'm prob. gonna get another pair for Urban.

I rock these and love em, breathe well down here in Texas and have held up well through a few spills.

I use ODI Ruffian grips, so no need for padded gloves.

I use Ironclad Framers. Thumb, index, and middle fingers are open for dexterity. Kevlar-like wear areas. Breathable, washable, terry thumb for sweatwipe.

These aren't cheap at $25-$30, but the will last 1-2 seasons.

oh yeah, terry cloth on the thumb is an absolute must on any pair of glove i own.

Ken, thanks for introducing Ironclad to me. I just went to their website, great selection. Why did you choose the framer? The vibration glove seems ideal for MTB.

I'm a carpenter, so that's how I ran across the Ironclads. Any padding in a glove (for MTB) is redundant since the 'padding' is in my grips (ODI Ruffians).

Tough man then. Framing, Sheet Rock and Shingles made an office man out of me. Beware the 5/8 sheet rock. Now I have sissy hands, padding is nice.

I've got two different pairs of full-fingered Fox gloves, no clue on what model of either. Neither has much padding, but one is thin for summer and the other is thicker for winter.

I also have a pair of Smartwool glove liners and can fit into either - nice and toasty this morning.

I only do half-fingered gloves on the roadie in the summer.

Full fingered, no padding. Currently using Fox Unabombers. I originally wanted something a little lighter, but they were the only ones the store had that had all the features I wanted (full finger, no padding, rubber grips on index and middle fingers, terry cloth nose wipe, velcro closure). Still happy I got them, best glove I've used so far (granted I've used like four, so my experience is limited).

I also use Ruffians, so no need for extra padding (except on the Yeti, which has Yeti grips, which are even more cushy and have even less need for glove padding).

I do drywall, too. 5/8" lid? A lift is the cheapest helper out there.

half-fingered pearl izumi gloves with padding. I think they are road gloves haha got them from my brother. Nice and light and breathable though.

Oh, and one pair of REI half-fingered for hot summer days; got 'em for $3 out of their clearance bin. For obvious reasons, I don't spend real money on off-brand gloves.

Ones that fit...I like the kevlar knuckle protectors and I like them to go to my wrist, not the base of my palm

I never do fingerless ones. Just doesn't feel right.

I've got a couple three pairs of old Sidewinders now used mostly for digging, trail, and yard work;

then 3 or 4 pair of 661's, not exceptionally durable but ultra thin, very well ventilated and relatively inexpensive;

Rockgardn M Theory for wet or cooler weather;

Klim Inversion for really wet and cold;

Spec BG Endurosomething I got a couple years ago but I cant find them anymore, unfortunately. My favorites.

No padded palms in any of them.

Louis Garneau no fingers for summer and Specialized full fingered for the winter.

The gloves I've been diggin' lately are some crazy black and white "pull-on" (no strap) full fingered that I got from Chainlove for $7. I got 2pr and really dig em. I'll see if I can find the brand.

As for gloves, I like to head on down to the local MX shop and see what they have. Usually 10$ to 15$ cheaper then buying the same quality/protection at a LBS. I never order gloves online because the stitching and fit can very a lot even on the same model glove.
