This is mainly directed to Southern California cyclists, but I was just curious if anybody out there is planning to do the Cool Breeze Century (or metric) on the 21st. To my knowledge, I'm the only one from my area (Santa Clarita Valley) doing it, and it'd be nice to chat with others who will be there, and it won't seem so much like talking to strangers! So if you're doing the ride, let's talk about it! (Especially if you've done it before. This is my first time.) :)

Shari,

I've done the ride before , but I have to work that Sat. this year. It's an easy ride, as far as centuries go. The only real climbing is between the 30 and 40 mile mark. It takes you up the coast and then through the beautiful hills above Santa Barbara. After you come out of the hills it's mostly flat and small rollers the rest of the ride. The return route takes you closer to the ocean and past all the estates , that no one can afford to buy. Beware that they take you out on Hwy 101 both directions for few miles , so wear bright clothing if you fear riding next to cars going by you at 80 mph . It's a wide shoulder but it's also full of debris .

I'll be riding the Angeles Crest century on Sept. 11th , it's kinda close to your neighborhood . Registration just opened and they only allow about 80 riders . Check it out . Link to the Angeles Crest Century (http://www.planetultra.com/angelescrest/index.html)

Bob,
Thanks for the info. I've heard about the Angeles Crest Century, and there's only one word I can think of to describe it--OUCH! As my hill-climbing improves, I might be tempted to try it in the distant future, but it's not that great right now, which is why I'm trying the Cool Breeze first. I've ridden along the coast before with the Channel Islands Bike Club, so I know it's a beautiful ride, and the hills aren't really all that bad.

Anyway, best of luck on your upcoming century!
