Trek and Specialized both make great bikes. Try them out and buy the one you like best. :D

They are all good bikes/ The 520 is a touring bike, the Seqouia is
a fun bike, and the 2100 is a high performance bike. They are all nice, the question is whether you want to go touring, have fun, or ride a racy bike real fast. Or to put a slightly different question to you....which bike do you want to get first? :D

I agree with Late; also there is no such thing as a good "both" type of bike. It may do touring ok and it may do racing ok but it won't do neither real well. If your touring or just want a very comfortable ride the Trek 520 is a good bet, plus it has a lifetime warranty. But you do need to test each model to decide for yourself.

i was trying to choose between a specialized allez elite and trek 2100 so slightly different bikes to chose between. i decided on the 2100. the specialized was very nice, but a few things bugged me....the loud freewheel when i wasn't pedaling and twitchy turning. i also didn't like the compact frame geometry much (purely aesthetic..dunno if they use that in the sequoia) either. one way that is somewhat feasible is give a trustworthy friend cash to buy either bike. and if he brings one of the bikes home, if you react negatively, you know that's not the bike for you haha

I also picked the Trek 2100. I fell in love with the frame on the first test drive and havent regretted my decision for a second. This is my first road bike, and I'm very happy I took the plunge. The bike is very stiff, but still rides deliciously smoothly. The carbon fork and rear stays really shine on this bike. I havent done any long-ish rides (more than 12 miles or so), nor have I purchased any padded shorts, so I cant really comment on the seat that much, but I really would reccomend taking a 2100 out for a spin.

BTW, if you want pedal advice...the clipless that come on the bike may or may not be decent pedals, but I got my LBS to swap in some Ultegra SPD SL's for $60. Excellent pedals.
