Hurricane Ida was a complete non-event near Puerto Morelos (we were about 5 miles or so north of there on the coast). We didn't get big waves because the resort is on a lagoon, however, TONS of nice conch and other shells washed up on the beach. Zoetry rocks as a place to stay, BTW.

Here's the trip pictures... (http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/album.php?aid=2043058&id=1435866490&ref=mf)

Enjoy yourself. We had a wonderful time, except for a few obnoxious spoiled Americans (mostly trophy wives) and the usual Bud Lite drinkin' types going to the cheapest hotels in Cancun types on the plane down and back. Technically, I've been to Mexico before - to Tijuana with my parents on a day shopping trip in 1977 while visiting relatives in SoCal, but that trip was pretty much like going to any sleazy flea market where everyone speaks a language other than English anywhere.

And you didn't need a passport then, and getting back into the US, the border dudes just looked to see if anyone was hiding in the trunk. I will say that going through Customs was *very* easy... as this was my first time out of the country as a real grown up adult.

Where are you staying?

We looked at that resort too... the GF and I wanted a more boutique hotel - as Zoetry has only 90 suites and was only half-full - experience. The downside of its location is its on a lagoon and you get a lot of seaweed. We may go to the Pacific side next time we go down...

This, BTW, is one of my all-time favorite signs anywhere, in downtown Puerto Morelos...

I hear ya... we looked at MASSIVE hotels but Silversands ended up being perfect. Plus it was adults only... that was a serious bonus as neither of us wanted to be surrounded by kids. Ours was only half full too, which was surprising considering how inexpensive it was.

If I may be nosy, how much for how many days?

We paid, with air fare, a little over $2K a person for 7 days at Zoetry. Zoetry doesn't restrict kids but strongly encourages you not to bring them. I have two which turn 10 and 8 shortly after the first of the year (I'm divorced) and if I'm going on vacation childless, I don't really want to be in a place that is chock-full of badly behaved and supervised children or a bellyflop contest like some of the places up in Cancun... or a drunken fest full of trust fund adolescent adults like the Maxim Beach Party in Cancun...

This is perhaps my overall favorite picture from the trip... my GF was feeding an iguana guacamole... LOL... from the angle, and the guy looking back, it looks like this iguana is thinking of taking him out...

Well, we took advantage of the Swine Flu Scare earlier this year, so we got an excellent deal. We... uhh... well, we paid $620 per person for 7 days including airfare. 5 star resort, modern/South Beach setting, all-inclusive, top shelf liquor and incredible food... just bonkers. We'll totally take advantage again if those deals roll back around.

FYI, if you want some CRAZY discount deals, check out www.travelbyjen.com (http://www.travelbyjen.com) Thats who we used and we couldn't believe our luck.

Wow. Thanks for the tip! We liked Zoetry, but, we are willing to book anywhere we can get a great deal... thinking of going back in a few months. This was just too much fun!
