I am the former owner of a 1982 Trek 400 which I sold to a relative, located 300 miles away. Bike was equipped with the Blue Line parts. Front derailleur clamp recently snapped off. I was hoping to pick up a replacement derailleur and install over the Thanksgiving holiday. But, since I don't have the bike near, I am trying to figure out what i need.

From limited research, I am figuring a used Sun Tour deraillaur to replace. I assume a 28.6 clamp size, does this sound right? I am also not sure of the top pull, bottom pull option. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

If its like the one on my Trek 600, then 28.6 sounds right and its a bottom pull (cable comes from under the BB and pulls down).

28.6, bottom pull. Keep an eye on ebay, I just picked up an entire blue line derailleur and lever set for very little. Or try another Suntour model: most of them are pretty good. (The BL stuff does not come up as often).

I just took a Suntour derailler off of a 412 because it has a broken cage. It's not a blue line but if the clamp works for you it's yours. I'll get the exact model after dinner.
