Nice ride. This should be an interesting thread. On the one hand, it's a Specialized...OTOH, it's a hardtail SS 29er. There's gonna be some conflicted members here

You'll love the bike.

The worst part will be the hate from the 26'' crowd.

bare aluminium rocks. funny how you were the HT 26in wheel spokes person when all that stuff was going down. Going to be a sweet ride when you are done.

the s-works was too much bike for me....i could never ever take advantage of it's potential.
and the $$$$$ i got for it didn't hurt either.

had my first real trail ride on a 29er and the verdict is in:
29er rules for xc riding.
i was faster, climbed better, had more confidence and just plain ol' had more fun than i ever have on a mtb- and on a single speed nonetheless!!!!

i installed the anodized green headset, added a white phenom saddle, green esi chunky's and for tires i went small block8 in the rear and s-works captain in the front.

this thing is a BEAST.

i truly apologize for not understanding the awesomeness of this 29" wheeled bike.
maybe not every kind of riding, but for xc, i truly believe that a 29er can't be beat.

y'also don't have to get up as high to go over the same height objects as on a 26er.

this bike goes against everything i ever believed about 29ers. it's fast. it's nimble. it handles great. it doesn't wash out. it increases rider confidence.
i am in love with a 29" wheel.
there. i said it.

let your hate flow.

Really???.........So I would only need to bunnyhop 6" to get over an 8" log? No wonder there's so much hype over a bigger wheel.

I've got a bare aluminum Gary fisher ht and I think looks sick, I'll try and post some pics when I get off work. Congrats on the bike, it looks awesome!

I like the green bits with the brown. Kinda like those Andes chocolate mints you get after a restaurant meal.

the root beer color is awesome!!!......but the graphics suck.
i hate the painted on "rivets" and the painted on mud splashes and the fact it says "29er" on it 400 times sucks, too.

johnnytheboy
11-15-09, 04:04 PM
i was actually just about to post how badass this fork is.....
i went from a fox f90x on my s-works to this rockshox tora air race and i have no complaints at all.
soaks up the rough stuff like it's not even there.

:notamused: point taken.

If you can run into a 3 inch log and go over it without jumping, you could do a little more with a 29er.

Soooooooo, you can be a hack and run over a 3" inch log or you can have a little skill an hop a 12" log. Got it.

wtf

It kinda looks like my old Schwinn Paperboy Special from 1966. Only your fork is much cooler.

NAH, just busted yer chops for going new world. I'm stuck in a time warp. Thats a great lookin ride, colors really appeal to a old tyed dyed hippie. But seriously, can you really climb as well with a SINGLE speed? That really makes me feel old an worn. FER REALS?

johnnytheboy
11-16-09, 08:18 PM
i used to worry about what gear to choose for the size of the hill, but now i just get on the nose of the saddle or over the bars, and grunt up the climbs. no sweat- well maybe a little bit of sweat.
