bitterken, I was one of those guys on Sunday. You were killing me on the long-ish uphills like the one coming out of the double-track section (where you passed me on the last lap and I couldn't hang on), but I kept passing you right before the barriers on that very muddy right hander. Seems I was able to ride that, while you were dismounting and running. This was only second race in the B Masters and the competition is definitely more stout than the C race; I attribute most of that to novices entering the C race, even if they are age eligible for Masters. On a side note, I have always been impressed by The Unholy Rouleur's tenacity when I see him race, but racing with him yesterday he earned much more of my respect; that guy has an unbelievable engine to do what he does.
I had a great time on both days. Saturday was a mess and I struggled in the wet mud with some help from gravity. Sunday's course was awesome and the pain meds the doc prescribed for my back did help some so I was able to go a little bit harder. As always, it was the atmosphere that stood out the most and that really is the draw for me to cross. My wife and 2 year old son came out on both days (and have been to most of my races this year) and had a great time. Racing my bike *and* having my family there enjoying themselves = teh awesome. Next week the boy is going to try the Little Belgians race on his trike, so that will be interesting. Also, sadly, I think next week will be my last race this year, although Reston is tempting. I want to focus on getting my back better before CXMyHeart in February, which I'll use as a testing ground for the upcoming road/crit season.
All in all, great weekend even with poor finishes. I've made a lot of new friends in the past few months. I love lamp. I love CX.
