To paraphrase Jay McInerney.
This morning I left the house at 6.50. Weather was crisp, about freezing, clear blue skies and virtually no wind. It was bright enough to allow me to leave my lights off and, although I hadn't been on the bike since Monday I felt strong climbing the hill to the Forth Road Bridge (maybe the effect of sun on my hypothalamus).
Crossing the bridge in a gear higher than normal, I looked down the Forth to see a beatiful pink sunrise, highlighting the orange girders of the rail bridge, with a tanker sailing up from Inchcolm island.
I passed a few unfamiliar cycling faces (train strike) as I took to the cycle path to Edinburgh, my wheels cracking through the ice on some of the deeper puddles ( only one rear wheel slide, which really woke me up).
Coming into Edinburgh the sunlight was hitting the Scott Monument and the Castle and, although I'm not a fan, I have to say Scotland's capital looked gorgeous this morning.
An endorphin creating spin along Princes street and into the office, warm and healthy.
What a great ride! More of the same please, mr weather man. Boy, am I looking forward to the journey home tonight.
