Road Cycling - Coolest wife ever!!!!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I remember seeing a thread somewhere, that a wife was going to get her husband the latest USPS Jersey. That was pretty cool.
I, on the other hand have been mulling over getting myself a roadbike. I currently own a MTN Bike (for about 6 months now) which I use on my 12 mile round trip commute. I love it tons but I haven't and don't see myself on trails anytime soon (or ever). On the pavement though, I feel quite limited outside the commute. Those who I see use the MTN bike on the road here in LA are usually purely for short, recreational rides (obviously it's not the case for everyone but I am still looking for a road touring MTN bike club in LA).
ANNNNYWAY, my wife knows about my dilemna, and the fact that it's my 30th b-day in a month. My meager attempts to justify cramming a new bike into our one bedroom apartment just don't hack it for me.
So what does she do?
She asks me to teach her to ride a bike so she can take mine and I can buy (with her help) the road bike I've always wanted.
Two birds with one stone, the bike and my best friend as my new biking partner. LIFE IS GOOD.
I'll probably have more questions later so as no to get screwed over or overboard with what I buy but I felt like sharing on how lucky I am.

Congrats! So are you guys looking at a 2 bedroom now so the bikes can have their own "space"? :)
Sounds like a great idea. Will she fit on your bike? (Does it matter?)

Looks like she will :)
Although if she gets the bug like I did we will probably get her, her own road bike in a few months. But for now, one step at a time.

If you havn't already.....putting fairly skinny slick road tires on the MTB wwould be a huge improvement for pavement riding. I absolutely HATE ridng my MTB on pavement.....drives me friggin' nuts. BBBZZZZZBBZZZZZBZZZZZZZZ

This "best wife/girlfriend" thing is starting to sound like the "world's greatest dad" argument on Seinfeld.http://www.geocities.com/seinfeld_soundbites/home.html :D

Don't forget the tandem when the time comes... You may need a 3 room pad.
Congrats.

Done that already (Geax Streetrunner 26 x 1.25 100 psi). Slight speed increase but I still feel stuck in the middle somehow. Like my bike is almost a Hybrid... I think the whole set up will be perfect for the wife though (3.5 mile relaxed commute to work)

Beware, biking is addictive. You may have 2 road bikes in your bedroom sooner than you think. :)
Riding with your spouse is the best! My wife actually was a cyclist before I was. She was the one that got me into biking and now we're both bike-geeks. :)

Oh I know how much crack it can be. I'm sure she'll find that out soon enough.
I can see us fighting over the bike catalogs as soon as they come in sometime in the near future.

Aww that's sweet! Be sure you treat her to a proper fitting and some good riding clothes for this. Wives really are great, mine (sm266) picked out my mountain bike for me (Santa Cruz blur) AND bought my road bike (Felt F50).

Bmph8ter and I don't fight over catalogs. I get them out of the mailbox before he gets home and leave him the bills.
