I messed up the lock ring threads on my expensive as hell phil hub!!!!
It may go on, I don't have the lockring that I need yet. If I can't get it on does anyone have any suggestions? The bike shop said to send it to Phil Wood, but that's gonna cost like $40 to ship! Plus they might charge me $100 or something. These are also tubulars and I intend on riding street! This has been a total waste of money!!!!!1
God help me.
Koffee I love you.
And here I thought I was the most likely to do stupid things to my bike...
But even I know tat a Phil Wood hub needs a Phil Wood lockring...
It looks better...

Koffee I love you.Why would it cost $40 to send to Phil Wood? It should be under $10. Worst case, don't use the lockring and apply liberal loc-tite to the cog.
Leason learned: never force a threaded piece on.

jeez louise you sure do a lot of whining and need a lot of hand holding. weren't you already crying a few days ago that your lockring wouldn't fit and everyone told you it was because it was a shimano and you need a campy or phil one? so why the crap did you insist on threading on the wrong one still!? are you an idiot, or impatient, or both? it sure sounds like you don't deserve that sweet wheelset you have. and you're crying about tubulars now? earlier you were rather insistent on riding tubulars on the street, though you had/have no clue about them or why to run them. what the crap does your ignorant tire choice have to do with getting the hub repaired? have you even truely looked into shipping the wheel or getting it repaired? or are you just making whiny assumptions? why don't you just give up and start a bridge club or something. maybe a yacht club is looking for more ******bags. i think they're calling your name.

I don't mean to be a jerk, but I kinda agree.

I guess my feeling is, unless you are confident enough with your bicycle repair skills, get a cheap set of wheels to practice on. I stripped the first FG hub I had, luckily it was a SOVOS and not the Phils or Promax I am running now. For my learning bicycle mechanics was a trial and error endevour, I would have not tested my luck on such an expensive piece of equipment.

given his fast and furious posting history, i also agree. it may have been the rap.
but to give the benefit of the doubt, as it was said, get a proper fitting ring and see if it'll still go on. then take action, or whine.

wow thanks for the help! you guys are real friends!
At the best they are only virtual friends and at the very best they are virtually all asshats.
why did he type about loving coffee at the end of that post?
also.. tubulars? i mean... they aren't exactly practicle and don't treat the replacement of the tire like you did that ring. you could die if you do that. next time get some clincher. tubulars are for people that have mechanics to do every little thing for them.

I love coffee too. But Koffee does a lot of bike touring. I sometimes ride tubulars but can only afford the cheap variety therefore they're not as good as semi-decent clinchers. I drink a lot of coffee while tinkering though..... and immediately go riding. But I prefer coffee over tubulars.

 he was talking about Koffe coffe, not coffee coffee.

Phil may be able to rethread it w/the proper die if there is still some
material to work with, it is possible.
Call them and ask!!!
If your racing then the tubulars are ok but for everyday street use
your kinda sorta asking for trouble and headacks.
And yes Koffee does seem to be a likeable young lady
Good luck - VÈÑÍ VÍÐÌ VÌÇÍ ™.

Ummm...reliable clinchers are the natural progression *from* tubulars. That's why we use them more now. Most uses of tubulars is backpeddaling (haha, I'm a jackass).
Oh and to address this thread. Just send it in--bikes are money-traps, there are no two ways about it. You do it 'cause you love it and always budget at least 50% more than you anticipated because nothing you love is gonna come cheap.

okay thanks for the advice...I think I'm gonna just ride these tubulars until they pop, then I'm getting a clincher set. Peace
