Mine seems to get squeeky and dirty after 2-3 rides ... pain.

What are you using for lube?

White Lightning.

White lightning gets washed off/worn off pretty fast. I lube my chain every 2-3 rides also.

White Lightning.

Do you ride in cold or wet weather? White Lightning is wax based and I've had trouble with waxed-based living in San Francisco (wet weather). You could try oil-based lube like Prolink or tri-flow, but they will pick up way more dirt than white lightning.

The trails I ride are really dry actually. I was just wondering if relubing every 2-3 rides is common. Relubing over dirt that is! I'm so lazy to clean my chain though even though I have an SRAM.

what does having an SRAM have to do with it?

SRAM Powerlink, so you can easily remove your chain for cleaning.

my chain maintenance routine: after about every third ride i spray the entire chain with pedro's extra dry aerosol. it loosens every thing up nicely. with the bike on a stand i backpedal while holding a shop cloth on the chain until dry. chain is now clean and well lubed for next ride. there are always some small metal flakes on the rag after the wipe. i assume they come from the chainrings mostly since they are AL.

Road bike = weekly
MTB bike = every few rides

My road bike (old mtn. bike with slicks) never needs a new lubing. silky smooth all the time. I guess it wouldnt' hurt though.

3 rides between lubing the chain is max for me. I usually lube every other ride, and occasionally after every ride. I ride dry, hardpack conditions, each ride maybe 18 miles, with singletrack climbs and decents.

I use Prolink, considered a dry lube. Before applying, I use a stiff brush to knock the dirt/dust off the chain, chain rings and gears. It takes about 5 minutes. Also, I have a repair stand, so that makes cleaning a breeze. The simple pleasures of a quiet, smooth shifting chain makes it all worthwhile.

I have a SRAM with Powerlink, and maybe once every 4 months, I remove the chain and give it a good soaking.

I use Pedro's Ice Wax. Works great but. IMO the chain needs to be relubed after every ride. I think its worth it paying more for some GOOD lube. My chain is silent.

get some good lube I get almost 300 miles or more out of a lube thats 10 rides a week and a relube every three weeks or so. voodew is about the longest lasting fairly clean running lube I have found. not sure yet how it holds out in the rain. as soon as the chain gets noisy or I hear the first squeak I clena the chain and re lube it.
