Came across this while perusing Ebay. Being a 2 year old model, what's a reasonable price to pay for this bike. What's your opinions on the carbon fork vs. steel for the '09 and '10? I've been waiting for one of these to be listed on Ebay for quite a while. I don't want to pay $1350. Thanks for your help.

If it was used to cross with, it may or maynot be well used for lack of a more polite way to put it. I agree that 1,350 is a bit much. I suppose closer to a thousand is in line.
If it was not hardly ridden, virtually unused as a cross bike, though 1,350 is a full price, not unreasonable. I've been looking at Jamis bikes for a long, long time on e-bay. They're sought after, don't come-up all that much and win full prices.
I don't cross, I like steel forks but you should take the advice of others in this regard. Not many chromoly cross bikes currently offered which makes it unique.

Looks like thats MSRP http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/BikeSpecs.aspx?Year=2008&Brand=Jamis&Model=Aurora+Elite&Type=bike . The 08' Aurora Elite uses the Jamis Nova Frame and also has a carbon fork, albeit different than the nova's and much more versitile in the fact that it has insets for a front rack, see little silver things mid-fork. It was sold under a touring guise though, then in 09' they changed the geometry to be touring specific, the 10' model gets discs but probably comes with the price tag too. Here's the specs; http://www.jamisbikes.com/usa/archives/2008/08_auroraelite_archive.html , if it fits go for it, fyi theres 3 53cm's on Ebay right now. ptn206 has an 08' Aurora Elite (see http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=600149 ) could send him a pm to see if he can offer any more insight. FYI, I paid $1100 for my leftover 07' Nova out the door in August of this year where MSRP is $1300, I feel it was money well spent and share the same sentiments as many Jamis owners who feel "Jamis gives you a lot for your money". Good luck.

Everything depends on condition. The best thing to do is always to nail condition down as much as possible before bidding. If you then overbid because the bike has been mis-described getting your money back *should* be fairly easy as long as you use non-gift PayPal - ebay is very seller biased these days.

Re. carbon forks - anything carbon on a used crosser or MTB is an extra risk factor in my book. The less certain the condition, the bigger the risk.
