I have found over the years that Many bicycle maintainence products are sold under a different label in "other" stores. When Purple extrememe came out I immediately knew that it was just royal purple Max chain under a "bicycle" label. What is the big deal?? PRice. I pulled the MSDS and noticed that it is the same product. In fact Purplle extreme even forgot to remove "royal Purple" from the fine print. Max chain is for indudtrial moving chains and gears. And also used int he motorcyles industry. It is a very very good product. Bike medicine basically just re-distributes it under a different name, package and a huge huge price markup.

Hmmpth. I've been using Purple Extreme for the last months and so far I really like it. I'll definately have to look into Royal Purple Max. Where should I look for it? Automotive store, or at some Motorcycle shop?

I have not had any luck with it. I cleaned everything applied it to the chained flexed the chain a bunch wiped the excess off and installed it like I do other lubes.
On the ride home after less then 5 miles I was squeaking. Though the ride on Monday the chain was fairly quit. I oiled it again and ran the chain on the bike then wiped it down and it was fine till the ride the next day. Now the weather was pretty hot around 100 degrees and it only had a few hours to sit. The last time I cleaned the chain again and drenched it and I got squeaking the next day.
I think to use it right you need to have it sit overnight or not be so hot.
I talked to the guy’s wife who sells it. Royal purple is the additive that is in purple extreme. They don’t use any oil in it but a thinner that evaporates. So it is the same thing without the oil.

I called royal purple today...the guy said he couldn't tell me if it was the same stuff or not due to "potential agreements" he did say (in a tongue in cheek tone) "my mom sold cookies at a bake sale one time that looked and tasted exactly like chips a hoy" I prodded him about the oil additive and he said " my mom made some cookies for a bake sale and they looked and tasted exactly like chips ahoy and their chemical makup was exactly the same. And she didn't have to turn her oven on to make her cookies"

I think if I sold Purple extreme I would use the thinner additive paradox to keep people from buying the chips ahoy cookies at Sams club instead of twice as much at my bake sale. LOL

RBR tested this stuff and they ALL hated it; they still swear by Prolink, which I have not tried yet because I'm satisfied with Finish Line Teflon Dry.

max chain is 8 bucks for 35 ounces and extrems is 12 bucks for 4 ounces. However I thought the stuff was great I am having reservations with all of the people saying that it is crappy.

but in a spray you will have far more waste and mess.
I htink it would work but it needs to try while before you use the chain. that does nto work with me. rightn w I mixed it with the other top lubes and I iwll see how the three work together.

Its not in a spray here at autozone. It is in a bottle that looks like quart bottle for oil. I am very suspect of this stuff now after reading some reviews of it. I used it on my road chain and thought that it made my bike run great but I am a victim of popular opinion and it seem like enough people have "thumbs down" this product that it doesn't matter what kind of container it comes in. I think I will just go with the prolink.
