I hope brussel sprouts have a lot of nutritional value so you get some vitamins for your trouble.
There are certain vegetables that I just don't get and brussel sprouts are one of them. Yeah, that and artichokes. Okra is ok, but only if it is chopped up and put into stews.
Mmmm Brussels Sprouts. Haven't had them in a while.

Next time, Beano FTW! I always take it before beans/cabbage/brussle sprouts/brocolli etc to tame the gases.
We have unusual kids. Ages 6&8 and they both love brussle sprouts and artichokes. Trick is to cook them correctly. For brussel sprouts, just half them and saute in a bit of butter in a covered skillet for 5 minutes. Perfectly cooked. If you cook them much longer, then you get the awful smell, texture goes to hell and it is just nasty. IMHO.
^ and this is one vege where fresh is infinitely better than frozen
My ex-boss used to call them "wretched little cabbages".
I love the stinky little things, as long as they're not cooked so much that you can mash them against the roof of your mouth with your tongue.
Heathen!
Next you'll be badmouthing rutabagas
Thoses are also known as swedes aren't they? if so badmouthing them is too good for them.

Overcooked Brussel Sprouts taste sulfurous, but cooked right, they have a delicate cabbagy flavor.

I bet you think nothing of ingesting sauerkraut and kimchee either. :twitchy: :p :D
Sauerkraut is delicious. I haven't tried kimchee yet.

Kimchee tastes nothing like sauerkraut. Although it's so blistering hot, it's hard to get to the taste....

I loooove sauerkraut. But I worry about What Might Happen if it were mixed with brussel sprouts at the same time.

I love Brussels sprouts, especially when they are over-cooked until they turn gray! Can't explain it, but way back some 40 years ago, I used to often eat lunch at a great little mom-and-pop cafe that kept the poor little things in the steam table for hours. Learned to love them that way.
I take Brussels Sprouts and shred them in a food processor, saute them in olive oil with chopped onion until the spouts are bright green and just starting to get soft. Experiment with herbs and seasonings. Also good if you chop and cook a slice of bacon and add a bit of canola oil to cook the onion and sprouts, no olive oil.
Thread title = another reason not to eat the little buggers. Wifey complains about my emissions as it is.
Don't you know that when you rip one off it lowers your blood pressure?
When I eat oatmeal for breakfast I can count on having gas about 6 hours later, like clockwork.
I never let gas keep me from eating anything.
I can't see how folks ride tandems.

I love sauerkraut and kimchee for sure! However, brussel sprouts are banned from my table! Nasty little buggers!

You've been reading the Navy cookbook again. Funny how food left in a steam table all turns gray after a mere 8 hours...hotdogs, kraut, etc. One of my fav meals was liver and onions, also gray. Mmmm
^^^^ grosssssssssssssssssss!!!!!
I had almost completely banished Navy food from my memory:notamused:

I love brussel sprouts. It's one of my favourite veggies but I don't make them often because whenever I eat them The Boy makes retching noises. The sounds puts me off supper.
Rutabagas/swedes are on my do not touch list. Hate them.

They are only good for feeding to livestock. They are not actually intended for human consumption you know.;)

I'm eating brussels sprouts now......left over from the ones I made and ate last night. I wonder if my wife minded me blowing the covers off all night last night? :innocent:

That would explain a lot.
I'm quoting you to my mom next time I go over there for roast beast and she tries to make me eat rutabaga. I'll point to the roast and say "she ate it, that's enough for me". I hope I'll still get dessert.
Lucky you, it's rutabaga pudding for dessert :p

Dessert should never be similar to torture. Next you'll be mentioning liver chip cookies or sweetbread cake or turnip turnovers. ug. I feel sick now.

There are no bad vegetables, only bad cooks.
Haven't had brussels sprouts since I was a kid, so no opinion; back then, though... yeeeeccchhhhh!
Same for sauerkraut, but the one time I tried kimchi, yes it was hot, but good. (Think I'll suggest kimchi to my bud, who's been dusting his food with powdered jolokia.)
I'm not one to go by, as I will almost daily take a hit of hot sauce in a teaspoon.
