Hey guys,
Long time reader, first time poster (I think). My first post won't be about my Motobecane, so hopefully you'll believe that I'm legit....
I'm mostly an MTB'er but I've been riding a Kona Jake around town for a couple of years. I'm a bigger guy, so those roadies with 23C tires made me a little uncomfortable. I've really loved the Jake (mine's the brown one, setup with Mavic MA3/Ultegra wheels and 105 10-speed for a nice budget build), and a friend of mine recently got into using a bike for transportation s we went to a park that led up to an MTB trail. My first experience with the Jake on dirt was a blast! But, as others have found, the Avid Shorty 4 cantis weren't up to the task of inspiring any sort of confidence on descents. I know that some of it is probably my inability to setup the brakes--I never needed to, since I was just riding around the streets--but I looked around BF and found that some people had found success with Tektro Mini V's. Got a set from eBay but I just didn't get the power that I was hoping for.
Well, I went and found me a steel disc cross frame. I thought about a touring frame, but I'm planning on using this bike on some of the MTB trails around here and figured a real cross bike might work out better.
So...it's the Voodoo Wazoo. Loved the blue colour and the disc-compatibility. I'm planning on putting my 105 group on there and adding some BB7 road discs. I understand that the rear spacing is 135, so it looks like I'll have to get a 29er disc wheelset. My question is--will I have any problems with the 10-speed 105 group on a Deore series hub? Or will I need to get some non-aero levers and barend shifters? Thanks for any help you can provide!
