Winter Cycling - Rear Derailer Freezing

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
the first cold temps around 20 degrees here in the mornings have left me unable to shift gears in the back until early afternoon when it warms up. Has anyone else experienced this and have you found any solutions?

Clean, Lube, I a also have a Grunge Guard. I rode all winter last year--temps to 0 F no issues there.
The only issue I had was that my rear brake cable froze once.

I just figure it's not worth the effort to defreeze everything, and usually just stay in the same gear all winter.

Hmmmm... Lizard Skins doesn't seem to have the Grunge Guard anymore. On days like this one gear works fine.

Rarely. Freezing rain sometime does it.
With a low-normal derailleur I can basically shift by pushing it in with my foot (since the cable pulls it out away from the bike) but I'd hardly call that a *solution*.
I switched to an internal hub rear wheel last year. I recommend highly, worth every penny. Shimano Alfine, 8-speed used.
