I've tried. Had a hard time figuring out when I could eat carbs before/during/after rides. I do long endurance riding, and it just is hard to fuel those.

80/10/10 diet is much more practical then a paleo diet for cyclist. Paleo diet is for people who like rotten teeth and eating disgusting dead animals. Doesn't sound fun
so easy a caveman could do it?

well I love eating dead animals personally
but do you care to back up your statement with some facts as to why it is so much better?

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that our body runs on carbs and the paleo diet is meat based. Try eating very little carbs and for a week and do some 2-4 hour bike rides. Its won't be fun.
Here's some quotes to demonstrate why a paleo diet is stupid
When you place humans on a diet for which they are NOT naturally adapted, this places unnatural stress on the organs of elimination. Humans have never adapted to the carnivorous diet that is high in animal products. The human liver is smaller than the carnivores and as a result, we cannot detoxify the poisonous products inherent within animal foods such as uric acid (discussed below). Our kidneys are also smaller and become diseased from overwork caused by a diet high in animal protein.
Dr Alan Walker and his associates, anthropologists at John Hopkins University, using the most modern electronic microscopic equipment,
state: "Preliminary studies of fossil teeth have led to the startling suggestion that our early human ancestors (Australopithecus) were not
predominantly meat-eaters or even eaters of seeds, shoots, leaves or grasses, nor were they omnivorous. Instead they appear to have
subsisted chiefly on a diet of fruit. Every tooth examined from the hominids of the 12 million year period leading up to **** Erectus
appeared to be that of a fruit-eater." - NY Times, May 1979
About 5% of the flesh volume of all animals consists of waste material called uric acid that is normally eliminated by the kidneys. Uric acid is a poison to humans because it is toxic and non-metabolizable. Nearly 100% of Americans suffer some form of osteoporosis which is due in large part, to the acidic end-products of meat (and grain) eating. All carnivorous animals however, secrete the enzyme uricase that breaks down uric acid so it can be readily eliminated. Humans do not generate this enzyme. Instead, we ABSORB uric acid when meat is eaten. As a result, calcium-urate crystals form and concentrate in joints, feet, and in the lower back. These deposits lead to arthritis, gout, rheumatism, bursitis, and lower back pain. Humans are physiologically unsuited to utilizing meat as food. Natural carnivores swallow hunks of carrion almost unchewed, and the flesh is digested in the stomach with ease and facility. If humans were to do the same, we would digest very little of it before putrefaction set in and illness ensued. For humans, meat is a pathogenic and nutritionally deficient food.So let's see a diet based around 80%+ carbs or a diet based around toxic raw meat? What do you think is better.
Check out this pic, this guy is only 25 and followed the paleo diet too the tee. Now his teeth are rotted

The vast majority of your energy comes from fatty acid oxidization. If you eat a meal that is 100% carbs your body converts most of it to fat, then burns the fat.

Actually, after a couple of days on low carbs your body will adjust to burning primarily fat for fuel. Once the changeover kicks in you'll be fine. I'd rather get my fats from healthier sources (all natural peanut butter, Omega-3 eggs, salmon, olive/macadamia nut oil) but there's nothing wrong with low carb diets per se.

Love your posts Hemprider.Eventually the 80-10-10 type of diet will catch on and we will see athletic records smashed.

Oh please;
That guy obviously never flosses, brushes, nor goes to a dental hygienist.
DIet is irrelevant.

Diet is never irrelevant, you keep thinking that tho

I'm not doubting that the guys diet contributed to his dental decay (ewww btw), but if he looked after his teeth properly then they wouldn't have looked anything like that.
I've often been tempted to give 80/10/10 a try, but it is a big lifestyle change. At the moment i'm running on carbs from fruit and veg, wheat free sources (rice/legumes) with small amounts of lean protein (eggs, turkey, chicken and fish). I never was much of a meat person so I don't think I could go paleo.

Yeah, paleo seems like kind of a joke to me. If humans had horns, giant claws, and giant teeth I might be able to believe its outlines were more than a temporary survival strategy for early humans.

Was also going to mention, in that pic, they guy doesn't appear to have very clean nails either. Looks like he could do with a lesson in personal care and hygiene.

I eat a high fat diet w/ excess vegetables and fish. I call it the Farmer's Market Diet (someone probably patented that already and will sue me.)
I can't imagine hunting and beating up animals every night w/ a club and gathering native plants for dinner--I'll stick to the Farmer's market :) (I read some of the actual research behind the paleo diet--interesting stuff.)

That website you got the pic from says nothing about him following the Paleo diet "to a tee". it just says he ate a lot of meat.

She's also hawking her diet advice so she's hardly an unbiased party. I find humor in the fact she links to "the world's most recognized vegan bodybuilder and in 30 years of bodybuilding I've never even heard of the guy.
