Also, should I be looking for sealed bearings? BTW, I've never used clipless pedals, and I don't plan to try learning to use them during the winter. Maybe this spring when I buy my new bike (hopefully :D).

Either would work for winter cycling (http://www.veloweb.ca/commuterpages/wintervelos.html) with boots. Consider Power Grips as an alternative to clipless.

I guess it depends on your riding style and the shoes you choose but......bear claw types can really chew up your ankles- and clothing. Ifthose two are your final selection, I'd take the second one over the gnarly one;-)

I use the cheapest pedals that will take a broad clip, once the weather gets rough. Walking boots keep my feet warmer and will give better grip if i have to walk, for any reason.

The second one you have, the bear claw type, I've found to tear up your legs. I also had issue with the outer ring wearing out and breaking off.

The second bear-claw type. If you wear a winter-boot it will have aggressive lugs on the tread. The first pedal you posted is for use with bmx style shoes or shoes which have a relatively smooth sole, it will not faithfully grab onto the lugs of a winter-boot. The bear-claw ones can dig into the lugs of your winter boot and prevent slippage.

Serviceable pedals are always nice but do cost more.

Bear trap.

The platform gives more room for ice build-up that eventually overtops the pins.

bear traps, i agree with ghettocruiser, last season my nice set of PRimo platforms on my mtb became slippery blocks of ice.

for this season i got a set of old school odyssey platforms with multiple rows of teeth for about 12 bucks usd/
