Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - what track bike has clearance for 26x2.5" wheels/slicks

i want to make my own amaro supermotard...
i liked the kilo wt, but 2.5" is too wide.

what else is there?

track bike with 26" rims? i think you are looking for 29" right? 29"=700c

It would be nice if people realized that a fixie and a track bike are not the same. There may be 26" wheeled fixie bikes that resemble track bikes but there are NO 26" wheeled TRACK bikes.

why not get a hard tail mtb frame and put a rigid fork on it?

Maxxis hook worms look sweet though, although they wear out kind quickly.

I'd like to spend under $1000-1200

Amaro has been contacted by many on a lot of the cycling boards and is not selling them...
just for relativity sake, they have a similar bike (with fenders, lolafallata or something) that is going for $5500-6000

Why not just run drops and long seatpost on a mtb that is a size or two too small (to get the saddle to bar drop) if you don't want to spend the cash on a custom frame? (although, you might be able to get one with that price range) Or is the geometry what you are looking for?

Hookworms last forever, the pair I had on my 24" DJ lasted 2 years and never flatted once, sold them with the bike.

The only reason for 2 1/2 wide" tires is to ride in deep snow or sand like the Pugsley, and there's no way you can do this singlespeed and still ride on the road without spinning like crazy. Plus brakes won't reach when the wheel is much smaller than the frame is designed for. So this guy's design may look cool but there's a reason no one does this.

FYI, 26x2.5" tire would have roughly the same outside diameter of a 700x32c. 26x2.25" would roughly equal 700x25c.

get a normal MTB that is designed for a long travel fork and then put on a nonsuspension corrected fork that will drop the front end and steepen the angles quite a bit

Not true. Big fat tires also absorb quite a bit of shock. And GOOD big fat tires can roll really nicely. I have a fixed rigid 29er with 2.35 Schwalbe Big Apples that is about the most fun city bomber ever.

I never flatted, they are great tyres, but the fine bumpy tread wore smooth in the rear after a few months. Which wasn't a big deal though, but still....

you're never going to find what you're looking for at the price point you want. there is simply not a market for this sort of thing outside of customized bikes.

you're best off buying a single speed mountain bike and tweaking the fit until you can get a more aggressive position.

I have a Lugged Track-MTB Hybrid Frame I bought from its builder.

I don't think it has true track geo but the builder tried to make it as close as possible.

It has a 71 degree head tube, 73 seat tube, 50mm BB drop.

I have most of what I need to complete my build except for the wheelset.

The picture does nothing to show the awesome paint job.

I'll be using Conti Town & Country 26 x 1.9.

That Amaro frame is gorgeous but the absence of a seatpost is kind of weird - and that's just me.

To anyone who rides a Ti frame - how is the ride compared to Steel?

My attempt is definetly not a track geometry http://cafe.ee/~aif/fix/image001.jpg but its close enough Supermotard for my taste. I spent around $600. Front wheel was build by LBS and back is my humble attempt. Biggest expense is back-hub, DaBomb is not the cheapest 20mm front diskhub around. If you can aviod custom-made (or make it himself) frame, $1200 is really doable. And hookworms dosn't need anything more than rigid fork.

From here I'm swapping out for a stiff fork, shorter stem and dirt drop bars with long travel road levers for V-brakes.

i think you are going to be hard pressed to find a track/fixed/SS frame that is designed for 700c wheels that is going to fit 26's like that. i agree it would be better to find a frame that was designed for 26" wheels and just put drops on it and such.

look at how the fork and rear triangle bow out to accommodate those tires, no 700c (probably not even most cx frames) frames are going to do that

I'd like to see a double rim version, accommodating snow/sand tired upto 4 inches. Think Pugsley wide.
2.5 inches will not surf snow nicely it's too narrow.

For geometry vise, if you look at Bainchi Pista 388mm chainstays, 58mm BB-drop and 73/75 head/seattube angle and compare it to racing mtb SOK 29ER ALU with 450mm chainstays, 50mm BB-drop and 70,5/74 head/seattube angle, you see that mtb frame has longer "backend", but snappier front and higher BB. My frame is more oldschool mtb, not so steep head-angle and fork has more trail. If you use mtb frame with 70 or 71 degreed head and short-trail fork its possible to have pretty good machinery.

This was my attempt at it last year. Mountain bikes just end up being too long in the top tube to be comfortable with drop bars IMO. This 19" bike has a 600 mm top tube. At 5'7" I would normally ride a 17" MTB but that would of had even more slope to the top tube and shown even more seatpost. In the end the bike didn't fit.

Awesome!!! That's completely what I want to do! In fact I think I have the same bar/levers. Which Surly fork is it?
Looking at that I might go straight to road bars, it definitely looks too wide for my getting to work riding.

The fork is the Instigator, WTB Road/Mountain drop bar, Dia-Compe levers for V's

Measuring my old beat to hell Rock Shox when I get home. I think I have a winner fork wise, I want a straight bladed fork mos' def.
