I'm out.

Got up this morning and took the girls to school... then came home and made a cup of coffee and took to mending thing on the sewing machine.

Gonna have to go and do something manly now... after I pick up some new thread.

It may not sound like a manly endeavor, but chicks dig a guy who can sew.
OK, maybe not all of them do. Mine does, because she gets cool stuff like 1 of a kind clothes and custom embroidered computer bags.

OK, I can't sew, but I can occasionally MEND. Does that count?

Manly? Believe so; supported by a co-worker who commented positively on seeing me in lycra -- over two years ago. She's such a TEASE!

Woman-hater? Naw, just don't feel up to putting up with the rest of the woman in order to get the punani.

Club? Can use it, but prefer a sword....

BTW, some homemade wheel covers would be nice. Made of something really cool, like goat or snake skin or something. I'm gonna learn to sew now.

Have you thought about knitting one in chunky wool yarn and then throwing it in the washing machine to felt it? That might be a cool way to get a nice durable bag.

cordura is pretty light strong and water resistant and holds it shape. if I knitted it, it would sag, plus the amount of time to knit vs using a fabric.

I really like sunbrella. but it is not as strong as cordura but it is nicer to touch and water resistant. and it cost a lot unfortunately

Sewing just never appealed to me. Home-Ec - (had to take) entailed an apron - ARGH that we had to model on stage (mine was pink btw) and the other project I made a stuffed alligator. I preferred to be out in the woods.

However I have mustered some simple curtains here and there, tried a funky skirt that was ... kinda fun. But I'll leave the sewing-masters to their craft, and admire what they produce.

Baggage is why I went out and bought a sewing machine... so far I have made the utensil sets, patched the knees in a few pairs of pants, and hemmed my daughter's gym pants... I added a little decorative stitching around the cuff.

Making a messenger bag would be a cool project too.

Hmmm...

Hmph. Thanks. I guess. :notamused:

I made my own car seat covers for the Trans Am without a pattern and altered my work clothes so they look more feminine.

And I oiled my knives tonight! :) Nothing like a clean, sharp knife. Man...I love the smell of knife lube.

Let me know when you make any in black.

And make sure they have plenty of pockets, no one ever makes one with enough pockets...

I can probably help you find a good machine... The Girl and I have spent countless hours researching and looking over the pros and cons of many models in our respective searches.

:)

I am having to re-learn a whole bunch of stuff here and was never more than a utilitarian sewer but it is really nice to have the tools at hand to make whatever I need.

I will probably have to take some classes or get my mom to come and give me lessons... she used to be a seamstress and when I was younger most of my clothes were hand made or altered to fit (lots of hand me downs) and she has mad skills.

So... my list of projects keeps growing.

tool wraps
shop apron
panniers
seat bags
messenger bag
handlebar bags
moose mitts
