I like carbon fiber, but do you guys think carbon handlebars are a waste of money?

Are you racing? What do you need them for?
I think they'd be a sexy purchase if I got them for myself, but not something needed.

My 2 cents.

Yep, I got 'em and I like 'em. My bike is no lightweight, and I didn't get them for that. I like the way they damp the high frequency vibes that will really fatigue your wrists and hands over time.

Nope. Would never buy them for me. Maybe if I was 100pounds lighter and doing xc.

I got my bars as a gift and I like them. Don't really notice any vibration damping as I don't pay attention to that kind of stuff when im riding my mtn bike but they do look cool:)

I like mine, but they aren't your average carbon bars http://www.maxmcomponents.com/pages/handlebars.html

I got them on a special pro deal for $40 but here's a link http://www.universalcycles.com/shopping/index.php?category=367

Retail they run about 110. :) I just called them! That's pretty cheap compared to some other bars! And they look really good too! :) Question though; Are those decals on the bars or are they painted? I would have to either change the decals or paint mine. x_X Those are extreme paint jobs.

They're painted. I have the Silver / blue version on both bikes - although I've wrapped the commuter bike's in electrical tape to avoid casual glances. Why the concern? The Red Yellow would tie in nicely with the yellow lettering on your rig.

I have Easton CT2 (now renamed EC70) carbon bars and they've survived plenty of crashes. I do like the high-frequency damping on fast fireroads. I do not recommend them for more hardcore freeriding though. I mainly ride XC.

Ally bends. Carbon shatters with knife edges.
No way on a MTB. Especially after time in sunlight.

Any polymer degrades in sunlight.

This would be for my Nail Trail. ;) No yellow lettering there; in fact, the whole thing is more of a gunmetal colour.

I wonder if I could get them to sell me an unpainted one. :)

I've got a carbon bar on a trials bike - it has taken quite a beating getting dropped on rocks, etc. No complaints, and at 220g for a bar that's stiffer than most alloy bars twice its weight, I love 'em. (Easton Monkeylite DH - $120). I'd highly recommend the Monkeylite XC's for just about anybody.

Sorry I was helping P.B. Walker with a color issue on his rig and I saw P..b.... so I got you two confused. :o The silver / blue version when installed is no big deal as you can see in the pic below. The majority of the non logo color is under the stem cap and the grips / control area so it's really a non issue.

I'm glad you posted such a qualified opinion and I'm equally glad you're here to tell me exactly what I need.

Yep, same situation as mine.
