I have an '05 Epic. Hope to be able to sell it for 1K. Hope to be able to get wife to let me spend another 2K. Want a new race rig. What are your suggestions?

This guy looks like a nice race bike. Specialized Stumpy HT Carbon Expert (http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=45868&eid=4342&menuItemId=9247).

Giant Anthem X2 (http://www2.giant-bicycles.com/en-US/bikes/model/anthem.x2/3894/36667/) - - unless you're wanting to get away from full suspension.

Look at an Ibis mojo...not the SL but the standard. I'm preyty sure you could get a full bike for under 3,000 with a slightly cheaper kit. Still a great kit but a little cheaper. It is the ultimate full suspension mountain bike and a great racing bike. check out their site.

What you really want is a steel, single speed, rigid 29er.

Funny you say that. I have a steel, single speed, rigid 29er (Jamis Exile)
Unfortunately, my wife caught me looking at a demo'ed Pivot for $3250 last night and dropped the gauntlet. She said no way.
Oh well. Now I suppose my question is, what should I upgrade. My tri and road bikes have gotten much love lately, but my epic has been neglected.
Any suggestions on upgrades? Three years ago I upgraded my wheels to American Classics. The rear hub is about to give out. Should I replace the hubs or just buy new wheels?

Your choices are chris king or I9 for hubs and get the most appropriate stans rims for your riding style.
Tell your wife you are saving $2,500.

Oh and maybe some nice new brakes. those always are nice. R1's maybe?

Look on their site...ibis cycles, it's not under 3,000$ but with the mojo frame with the slx kit its 2,999$ for a kick ass bike haha

Those things amaze me. Back when MX's was still just an Excel spreadsheet I became intrigued by them. Talk about an all-rounder: XC bike; trailbike; mountaincrosser; lightweight DH weapon - - Lopes has won two Crankworx Air DHs aboard one.
