Forum Suggestions & User Assistance - New Look

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Is there a way to go back to the old look. If you really want to upgrade the look that's fine but the new forum skin is harder to read. My eyes find it hard to flip between the different formatted fonts and with less posts in the screen at once I am scrolling more. Also the extra graphics make this thing a pig loading compared to the old loading times. I don't need anymore bloat in my life. I am trying to fight my own, I really don't want to fight yours to.
How about offering different skins the user can pick because this well...sucks...

One thing I really, really LOVED about BF was that it was about reading, not looking pretty. It did not sacrifice readability just to look soft and smooth and sexy. I'm all about the content, not style.
Black on white is a nice, simple contrast which makes reading easy. Black on soft blue is BS.

I paid membership because I like the site, and I hate advertising.
Now I have this freaking nuisance "click me" attention hoor vbulletin ad in the bottom right corner? And I can't get rid of it?
This is the internet equivalent of those infuriating station identifiers they have hovering on every channel on TV. Absolutely infuriating!!!!!
WTF PEOPLE!!!! :notamused:
the old design was old and tired, so the new look was unavoidable.
thing is, this doesn't seem to be much more than a beta. at least i hope so, because damn is it clunky. and the search engine is even more useless.

The new look is big and fat. It seems to take up much more space for the same content.
I don't mind a change. What I'm most afraid of is people confusing "looks nice" with "easy to read". It's the reason I have a deep loathing of full justified font.
I don't mind nicer. I mind big and fat and lazy and harder to read.
good point.
you'd also think they'd get rid of the hamfisted logo (http://www.bikeforums.net/customimages/leftbanner.gif) and replace it with something better.

It's also much more difficult to look like I might be doing work-related stuff with the new look. :(
And I can't get into P&R

i use Adblock Plus and was able to get rid of the ad with a couple clicks...
but i agree: The new look wastes screen space; icons are too large; hard to read; inconvenient.
i am also not that impressed with the stupid non-useful icons in the forum listing page
the old site's layout was usable on mobile and handheld tablet devices (such as Nokia N800) - but the new look is UNUSABLE...
this is typical of today's image overloaded, ADD-addled sites though - so BF has good company
I agree with you all, but here's my question ... will our complaints be heard? Will there actually be some adjustments made to bring us closer to the look of the old UI?
If not, I think my posting here will decrease ... looking at this screen is giving me a whopping headache.

I also do not care for the new format. Is there a "user CP" button that I have overlooked....for my thread subscriptions???

really preferred the old site myself. simply cleaner looking and I liked the less spaciousness of the threads. I 2nd the idea of allowing users to choose skins if possible...

Go to Settings at the top. Then go to Edit Options.

I'm fine with the new software. I'm supposing that this is indeed not only about "the look."
That said, it's time for a new logo.
