Winter Cycling - advice on caring for my new lake MXZ302s?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I just got my new Lake MXZ302s and they make me wish it were cold. (at least in the winter forum we can agree that 45 degrees F isn't cold)

I did a fair amount of research before buying them and I remember two care tips. First, it would be a good idea to use something to protect the leather - a nikwax product? Second, that it would be a good idea to have a spare set of laces on hand. Anyone know where I'd get them?

Unfortunately I can't find or remember where I saw this info so i'd appreciate it if someone could fill in the details.

The BOA laces you order directly from Lake. It's somewhere on their web site. They're extra long. With careful trimming and relacing, I get two replacements per kit.

Stores around here have never even heard of Nikwax. It seems horribly overpriced online too. I use Kiwi Outdoor Wet Pruf on mine. It's $3 or $4 at the grocery store in the shoe polish section. I'm in the second year on this tin of it and it looks like I could get a third.

looks like lace replacement is now handled by boatechnolog.com . click "dialed in guarantee" near bottom.

I use Sno-Seal for my leather footwear. Works great.
