"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - new team for 2010

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
i've officially moved onto an "elite" (i.e. cat 1/2) squad for 2010. I'm excited about it as there's an opportunity to race with some really good bike racers, but a bit intimidated as well. I better go train.
anyone else switching for next year?

Same team this year, but with a more talented/expanded roster. I have high hopes.

I'm racing attached this year, I really missed the team dynamic last year. I missed the whole racing bit too, but having teammates that are fun sure is nice.
hey will, come north a bit! - my team raced quite aggressively last year in the 3s and while a bunch are moving up this year there are a bunch of other guys that will be attacking the races repeatedly this coming year. We have solid TT guys as well (pro triathletes racing TTs between world cup events)

Who did you guys get?
Technically, I'll be on the same team. New sponsor and some more horsepower. Should be a lot of fun.

New team after 3 years off. The team is actually a new off-shoot of an older team as well. Still trying to decide if I go with the new team with the old title sponsor or the old team with the new title sponsor.

same collegiate team (NC State), still unattached probably for the USAC season next year. Kinda late to get on a squad, and I'm not even sure who the teams are in Charlotte. I think I'll do unattached, try to get some results, and then hopefully someone will actually want me (instead of me wanting them) for 2011 season.

Subs, you win the hand wringing award for team decision making.
Right now the plan is to do a couple of stealth unattached efforts mid season and see how it goes. I have a team that has offered a spot mid year if I want it. but it is going to come down to health. Gotta decide what the benefits would be versus just going lone wolf for the year if my Doc let's me get all serious and stuff considering I would probably have to target and recover rather than having a calendar.
MRI either right before Christmas or right after will tell the tale about training and the immediate future.

I'm on a new team for next year. I guess it doesn't really count as a new team considering I was never really on an old team, just a club. I've only done one "official" team ride so far but it seems like an awesome group. I don't know how much I will be racing (because of motocross), but when I do it should be with a good group.

Welcome to stupid fast. Nice thing with a 1/2 team is you can go contribute then if you get blown off, oh well.
Same great group for me. Changes: I'm planning on doing more 1/2 stuff as training for Gila this year, need the speed and distance. Otherwise I'll race down an age group with the young 'uns and just do my racing age at Nats and States.

Same group for me as well. Barring another injury I'll likely be on the "travel" half our our elite team, so I'll get to do Utah, Cascade, Gila, and all the other big ones west of the Mississippi. Looking forward to it, should be a good year.
Collegiate is still the same, obviously. Goals for that season are win more races than last year (3) and have a go at Nationals. The Wisconsin course will probably suit me pretty well.

A few young guys who mostly raced collegiate last year, and an ex-pro triathlete who recently switched back to road racing. It's going to be a young team.
I've heard the rumors that you guys are going to be quite the force this year. Pretty damn impressive roster. Who's the new sponsor?

The sponsor is from within the cycling industry. Lots of useful product and a good amount of cash. The checks have been signed and everything, I just don't want to name them until we officially announce. Some people know already so you might hear it. I just don't want to put it in writing here.

I've been planning on moving to Belgium since February. Talks went stale, until a few days after I posted that MTB thread. The guy I was talking to over there who runs a house for cyclists offered me a deal. Needless to say, I pulled the trigger. I'll be there from February until September. I think if I devoted more than 2 days a week to training and 2 races a month to this whole thing, I might be kinda decent.

The shop I was riding for has folded. There's another great local shop but not a lot of racers attached to it. I'm just a 4 but want to get to 3 by the end of the season. Not sure if I should look for a bigger, farther away team or if I should just get some of these guys back to racing.

Same team.
We're growing (50+ members this year) and might have recruited a few cat 2's coming out of college... that should motivate a few of our 3's who are on the cusp.
We've also got a strong group of 3's and 4's that should have a presence in every race.

Same here, but I wish I could race 40+ with you guys next year. Stupid January birthday. Well, it's not like you need me up there anyway.
I've moved a long way, so I've got a new collegiate team (Vanderbilt) and am looking at joining one of the local USAC teams, which is looking to grow and get a lot stronger this year. We seem to share similar goals and it's a nice group of people, so I'm likely to end up with them for 2010. Pretty exciting!

I'm joining Expowheelmen in CT. I moved to the northern part of CT a couple years ago, but joined a team back "home" (CT Coast Cycle, or C3) because they are good guys and such. However I really missed out on group rides etc. I realized this at C3's race when I was in position to do well but didn't know my teammate well enough to ask him to help. As it was I got second in the field but a guy soloed away off the front (a fellow BFer). At that moment I realized that I wasn't really part of the team, just a member.
A good friend and I want to race together officially this year. We raced unofficially together - we worked together, and I acted as a rogue teammate for his teammates when I could. This year we both joined up on the same (new) team so we could race together officially. We also have a bunch of friends and friendlies who joined up as well.
Interestingly enough none of us got asked to join. The guy running the club specifically didn't ask anyone, he just mentioned he's starting a new club. 60-odd people joined almost immediately.
Anyway, after I spoke with the guy starting up the club, I decided to sponsor the club as well.
We're definitely a low key team, we pay for our kits (I got a jersey and shorts as a sponsor, but I bought the other shorts, jerseys, ls jersey, vest, and jacket), we pay for our entries. We're not pros or anything (all 3s, 4s, 5s, or non-racers, except for the guy who founded it, he's a 2), and we know it :)
I hope to build some good team spirit/work/cooperation here. It's reminiscent of the old Carpe Diem Racing team I ran eons ago.

Believe me we've talked about it...that's why we didn't really go after anyone...the two new addition are for the Northern Office (Ex's territory). The other 40+ guys were already on the team they just got old.
WR you'll have loads of fun with the cat 3 team next year...then in 2011 you can join the elderly squad for total world domination!

Starting a new team up here in the frozen tundra of NY. Some strong cat3 riders, a cat1 mtb who will be making the switch, an oldtimer cat 2 that mostly does TT (former collegiate national champ). Either way will be a small team, in its first year, and pretty young which should actually be a lot of fun. Looking forward to it all but trying not to keep my hopes up being a new team and all.

The "Bridging" has been completed. The north will join the south for the bigger races and the south will head north for some selected dates and visa versa. I'm not so concerned about the 40+ being a walk over but I do feel sorry for the 50+ now that Ex is an ARRP member.

Plus, once BF:Houston_Biker gets his legs back under him from the hip resurfacing, he'll be tearing it up and representing Houston for 40+ JPB. We should have a contest for which teammate has the longest drive to the shop. Obviously, our Barcelona DJ squad is disqualified since you can only drive over the ocean in the winter, and probably not after the 1970s.
