Bicycle Mechanics - Left Pedal Wont Screw On!

hey guys, i just got my mercier kilo tt stripper today and im having trouble installing the pedal!

The right side pedal (marked w/ a R) screws on clockwise perfectly. But when i try to install the left pedal on the left side of the crank counterclockwise it wont lock in at all. are the threads on both pedals supposed to be threaded in the same direction? heres a pic of what i mean...

(the left pedal is on the left side the right is on the right)

You are holding two right hand pedals.

you mean both those pedals have right side threads?

They both go up and to the right = right hand pedals.

damn. i gotta contact BD about this. and i was so excited to go riding tomorrow!

As the fellows say, both rt. handed, tighten clockwise. I doubt that the left side crank is right hand thread, you can check that. They provided one wrong pedal most likely. Just to cast my vote

Occam's Razor - the most obvious solution to a problem is the simplest solution. And it's the correct solution. Make sure to ask wherever you got them to make certain to send you a left-hand pedal.

i PMed mike and he thought it was very odd too, he hasnt seen anything like this in 10 years.

good news is he already sent me another pair of pedals (thats nicer than those gold stock ones), should get here tomorrow or tuesday!!! i cant wait!!! finally i can go ride my bike.

um, guys, the left pedal screws in counter-clockwise, and obviously unscrews clockwise, the exact opposite of the R pedal, which is so marked so you will know which way it threads. only the R pedal uses righty tighty, lefty loosey.

think about it, if the left pedal used RTLL, it would unscrew itself completely in about a dozen or so pedal strokes...

This is not the issue. In post #1 the OP describes the how s/he is correctly trying to screw in the pedals.

It has been determined the OP was sent two right-side (right-threaded) pedals (or at least spindles) and was missing a left one.

Also, we don't need to start another debate here as to whether the direction of each pedal is designed correctly or not.
