A small calculated risk. An experiment as you suggest. Worst case, you'll have a spare bike or to gift or provide for a riding partner. At best, you'll really like it. I pay that much in late fees monthly, do to shear procrastination, let alone losin' my ass in investments. I presume that you're adept at at least minor repairs, adjs. and such so.... seems OK to me.

Just curious, what are your other 5 bikes?

A couple of spec sheets that I found stated that it is an aluminum road bike that weighs 32 pounds. I wonder if that is shipping weight, because it is hard to imagine that the bike could weigh that much.

It has a Shimano RD-TY18GS rear derailleur. Never heard of that one before.

Still, it may give you an idea of what riding on a road bike is like ... if you can configure it to get it close to your optimal fit.

For $179, you can find a really nice vintage used bike in most markets.

The Fuji Newest 4.0 is a very low end road bike, but I've seen them at good prices for 1 and 2 year old "new" bikes. It has an adjustable stem, so you can set it up to be comfortable.

It isn't as nice a bike as your Jamis or Haro mountain bikes. I have ridden them a couple of times, back when I was thinking about picking up a low-cost road bike, local LBS had year-old models for sale at $369. Still on the heavy side for a road bike (almost 26 pounds), but I thought it rode fairly well.

kdarejr
11-23-09, 01:13 PM
I got it A Lot cheaper then the 369 price it's a 2009 model and at 26 Lbs I thought it was a little heavy but it will not be here until Friday or Monday at the latest then they have to assemble it and tune it and then fit it to me this is my first road bike ! I did look at the Treck in blue and white it was 650 plus I just can't drop that much but it was a sweet bike

Don't know much about Airborne bikes. I know they have a checkered history. That they made some nice bikes a few years back, even some Titanium bikes with very good component sets. But then were sold to Huffy and substantially cheapened.

Yours looks like one of the good ones, as I don't think the Huffy models had disc brakes. Some of their bikes sold for $2000+.

That is such a 20th Century concept. With modern photoshop and 3D animation techniques, pictures prove nothing. He might have pictures but they still don't exist.

I have a Fuji Newest. It was my entry into modern-day road cycling. Mine has Sora components, and currently it has around 8,500 miles on it. No problems. I've worn out chains and tires, but the bike and components have been good.

I've since gotten a carbon frame bike, but I still ride the Fuji regularly. Currently, it is my night bike for after work rides, and if it looks as if I may get caught in the rain for a day ride, I take Ol' Fuj.

Good decision on canceling the Victory Vision. Customer reviews were very poor. Original posters were being nice wishing you good luck. Most folks pump up VV tires and they blew out due to issues with the spokes.

I like the Schwinn, but I'm guessing it's a bit on the large side for you based on the saddle placement with no post showing.

I hope you enjoy riding your new road bike.

Why so many similar mountain bikes?

Airborne did make some aluminum frame bikes. Not sure about the mt bike side of their stuff however. Post the fork, drivetrain specs. That will tell if it is post Flyte or a Huffy model. Airborne did not use lower end components on any of their bikes.

We'll chalk this up as a rookie mistake, but he was clearly kidding around with my response, not calling you a liar. You'll have a lot more fun here if you lighten up a little. There are very few real jerks on this board and they are much less subtle than what you've seen so far.

I did tell them I could have ordered it my self and had it here in 3 days ! this is one of 2 bike shops I deal with and they have always done me right ! I was told it would be here 11/27/09 but what bothers me the most I did not even get a courtesy call ! so now I go back to work and am out of riding time with the weather and 14 hour work days ! arrrrrrrrggg

I don't think you really want to hijack this thread for that. You can start a new thread.

I had no idea that hijacking of this thread would take place for posting pictures of recenty aquired bikes. Isnt what this thread was all about ?

I'm not the thread police, but this thread was started by kdarejr to discuss the bike he was planning to buy.

I'm not at all trying to discourage you from posting the pictures of your bikes, but merely suggesting that you consider starting a new thread for them. I think your new bikes deserve their own thread so they can be discussed while the OP keeps the discussion about his purchase going. Sorry if I was too blunt and gave the wrong impression.

I stand corrected. If the OP welcomes the inclusion of $8,000 bikes in his thread about stepping up from a $180 bike to a $300 bike, then who am I to say different? I'll just mind my own business.:o

Hey it's OK I don't mind at all if you have that kind of money to spend on a bike then power to you ! But not to wine but when you and your wife both loose your jobs and your house then you see why I spend what I spend but I can still have several cheap walmart bikes that I have and enjoy them and not be a snooty snob about it after all this is Michigan and jobs are hard to come by
