Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - IGH on a mountain bike?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Are there any available on the market?
Is it easy to convert, say on a 29er?

why does this belong in the single speed forum?
you can get 135mm spaced, disc brake internal gear hubs...
check out http://hubstripping.wordpress.com/internal-gear-hub-review/ first
"# Hubs which a disc brake option are Shimano Nexus INTER-3, Shimano ALFINE, Sturmey Archer 8 Speed (model: XRK8), Rohloff Speedhub and SRAM i-MOTION 9 ."

Yes. Check out the IGH forum at MTBR and you'll see that there are many folks over there riding IGH's on their mountain bikes.

it works pretty nice too
had a SA 3 speed in an old mtb frame, i narrowed the drop-outs, worked really well, until i went fording (riding through fords)
if you use a SA hub make sure the plate used for the drop-outs is thin, the axles aint the longest in the world
i definately recommend trying it though
Joe and his wife bought sweet Santa Cruz MTBs and added Rohloff hubs for their Continental Divide trip. And yeah, not sure what that has to do with single speeds.

Much like a 3 speed FG hub on this forum.

..not really, seeing as how this forum is "Single Speed/Fixed Gear." Seems as though the "Fixed Gear" would take care of that.
An internally geared, freewheeling mountain bike? That is about as far away from the topic of this forum as it gets, unless they want advice on tensioning their chain.

You've apparently never been here for a "lets all post pictures of Volkswagens" thread. Many folks here get raging hard-ons from viewing pictures of mediocre German chick cars. (that's right, I said it)

I think the original intention was single speed fixed gear. It's not called the multi gear fixed gear forum. It's all good.

Alright, poor choice of phrasing. There are definitely things further from being on-topic.
But I can think of at least five other subforums that would be better suited to answer the original question.

Oh, I agree. I've posted my IGH bike here a few times because it is built off a FG frame but in general I think there are other forums that more closely cater to IGH questions. I was mostly just trolling to see who'd get their panties in a wad over Vdubs getting insulted. No one took the bait (...yet).

I'm ok with your VW bashing. They are crap now, so it's only fair.

Building an IGH bike is much like building a single speed, same problems - chainring/cog size, cranks, gear inches, chainline, chain tension, etc.
