OK, so now that construction between South Elgin and St. Charles really does have the path blocked ... what's the best way around it?

Take a risk and use Randall Rd. between St. Charles and South Elgin areas or hop on 31 from the preserve area just north of the Fox River bridge into South Elgin. (probably have no shoulder plus maybe narrower lanes at the construction site. Or better yet, follow cyclopyscho's advice and go north or farther west into the open roads west of 47.

It is only 1-1/2 miles from County Park in South Elgin to Jon Duerr forest preserve on route 31. This forest preserve connects you back up with the Fox River Trail on the South end of the trail construction at the bridge that crosses the Fox River. At the right times Route 31 is not to busy and it is only 1-1/2 miles.

It really sucks that the county pollyticians didn't make them keep the trail open. The local govts did it witht he tollroad bridge (much bigger project) without an issue. Other than minor closures, it should be a non issue.

Must have lined their pockets, at our expense......

Is it really 1.5 miles as a detour? Does not seem like it.

If you really want to stay off Rt 31, cut thru that subdivision west of Rt31, coming out on McLean Blvd closer to the Deuer FP. Check google maps, if you zoom in close enuf, the trail system is visible. Middle, to Collins,to Medpord, to Valley Forge, to Franklin, to Lancaster Circle, to McLean, to Duer FP entrance.

I think the link back on the south end is called the Silver Glen trail.

I have just been going north to Algonquin and Crystal Lake instead. Just might try it south this week.

You should let me know when you are coming to CL, I live a half mile from the trail.

That is a bad idea also, Mc Clean is also closed and I dont think you would want to try to ride through the stuff at the 31 intersection. It is a mess down there. Also I dont really want to be riding under the construction, there is a big liability. I double checked and it is only 1.66 miles from downtown SE to the driveway of the forest preserve.
