Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just curious as to what the masses are riding...
Brand and model (number) if you all don't mind

The most common bike I see are treks. Not sure of model number though.
g'day,
In oz its currently 'giant' TCR whatever...composite frame, reasonable gruppo, kysirium Elites...retailing for around $3K AUD ($2.1K US), which is cheap in Oz for that level of equipment. They've become so common now that people are calling them 'Hyundai's' (extremely common, cheap, korean car),

I see a lot of S-works, but thats what our team rides, TREKs are quite popular, with Giants a close 2nd

i dunno specific models in san diego, but i've noticed alot of cannondales on the way to and from work...

Probably cannondale, but there's not a predominant brand around here.
Trek, Specialized, Giant, Cannondale and Litespeed are the most popular. I also see quite a few Bianchis but they kinda stand out because of that Celeste Green. ;) However, there are quite a few local brands that I see a lot of too. These are typically K2, Rodriguez and Davidson. I guess Seattlelites do support their local bike businesses.

I see tons and tons of Treks, both the carbon Treks and the aluminum Treks. I guess Lance Armstrong is working wonders for their brand name.
The second most I see are Specialized Allez models (I'm trying to get myself one of these).

In Central Park, NYC...Trek and Colnago tie for first place in terms of popularity. But, you also see EVERY bike under the sun in NYC, which is a great thing.

I'm starting to see more and more Avantis, and lately I've been seeing more of the high-end stuff.

Around here I mainly see high end Treks and Cannondales. Which was one of the reasons I didn't want to go with those brands when buying a new bike.
well you can tell I dont live near a big city :)

Well that's true I didn't think about it that way...he didn't clarify as to what other "cycling hobbyists" are riding or just what you see more around town. If you mean around town, I see lots of Magna, Huffy, DiamondBack, etc... ;)

On Ragbrai, it seemed to be Trek, C'dale, Trek, Specialized, Trek, Bianchi, Trek, Giant, Trek, Trek, Trek and more Trek.

A few years back it was Pacific (because of the ToysRus deals). I see Bianchi and Trek the most.

On a typical weekend ride I see more Colnago than anything else, followed by the Treks, then it is everybike under the sun. I am always the only Specialized Roubiax carbon frame around.

Cannondale, Trek, Raleigh, Cervelo, DaVince, Colnago and Litespeed, not necessarily in that order, and a couple of Pinarellos

In terms of road macheens mostly C'dales, Treks, some Colnago's. What I mostly see are department store bikes form the local Crappy Tire or Walmart.
I want a Litespeed. Don't see many of those! :D
Trek's...probably 2:1 around here...
Portland Oregon - I see lots of Lemonds and a Trek - wait, that's my garage. Maybe that's why my latest project (Tete de Course) is getting a custom face lift.
On my club rides, I see the usual number of Cannondales, Giants, Specialized etc... What surprises me are the number of Serotta's here - both new and old. I see 2 or 3 on every ride with 20 or more people.
55/Rad
Mostly trek, then probably specialized/Giant and then a smattering of lemond, litespeed, colnago, kestrel, cervelo, seven, serotta & waterford

Trek and CD make up 80% around here.

In this area it is Trek, followed closely by C'Dale and then Bianchi.

around these parts there are precious few people who have gone through their cycling lives without owning a Trek. I am proud to say I've never owned a trek and don't intend too.
They are by far the most common.
Scott Seems to be taking over the "most bought" title from them now though.
My Cannondale's and Litespeed are still pretty uncommon, pheeeew ;)

Serotta's are real popular in my club. Also see Treks, Lemonds, Giants, Bianachi, Litespeeds and a few Cannondales.

I think alot of it depends on whats sold in your area at the lbs. I have a performance, supergo and a jax's & two wheels one planetwhich are a bit more of a local bs but both are pretty good size all within 25 min. drive and they sell CD,Trek and Giant.

I am suprised by the amounts of GIants people see, here in NYC i never see them, its all trek which is why i went with the Giant. I cant believe someone used the wors giant and hyudai in the same sentence (sorry for the spelling)
In Hamilton, Ontario, it's the 50 lb. Canadian Tire Special with full suspension and insta-rust component technology. The rider is usually smoking. A close second is the CCM or Norco ten-speed with the handlebars upside down, usually ridden by guys who lost their licence from DUI.

Treks, probably followed by Giant. I don't pay much attention to models, but I see a lot of 5200s. Lemonds and Della Santas are popular, too, because Greg grew up here and Roland Della Santa built some of his early frames.

Treks definitely most frequently. Then Marinonis, but I am not sure if that is because there are a lot of them, or if I just notice them more. I also see some Gurus.

I love open-minded people. My road bike is a Trek, it was the best value at the time for its components, it's reliable and I like it better than my Campy Coppi. It does lack poser value. Oh well.

Austin Tx is owned by C'dales there freakin everywere! There are a fair share of Treks and Fuji's.
I had a Cinelli Starlight but the frame broke in an accident a few weeks ago. I loved that bike and I NEVER saw another on the road. I replaced it with an Orbea Orca white/blue fade paint and thought "Gee I probably won't be seeing one of these too often". I roll up to our Tuesday night training ride and right there is the identical bike! So much for being different!

Trek's...probably 2:1 around here...
Little surprise, as they apparently outsell the next brand by a 2:1 margin.
Out here in the North East as well, lot of Treks, Specialized, Lemonds and Bianchi, in that order.

I see a ton of Wal-Mart specials. Seriously, Mongoose, low-end Schwinn, and Huffys. There are about four of us with Treks. I am the only one with a road bike, and there is one guy who has a recumbant.

Tons of Treks followed by Giant, Specialized and Cannondale.
AVANTI....an ozz company me thinks....Hitchey - u see many of them?
g'day,
Cheeky bloody Kiwis!...Avanti are a KIWI company......Aussies are generally to dumb to build & market any decent frames (c'mon tigerboy, flame me!).....the avanti's are welded in taiwan, from an Italian design, for a Kiwi company.....not a bad frame actually. I raced an '01 Corsa for awhile, a mate took it O/S to race in Belgium, it got quite a alot of positive comments. The real problem with ever getting an Aussie frame up & running is the size of our market (20 million total pop), & the coming of age of some of the stuff manufactured in Asia. like most manufacturing in Aus, its almost impossible to compete with labour costs etc. .....now, if we could just get Mick Rogers to win the next 5 TDF's on a 'tigerboy' special, we might be in business,
cheers,
Hitchy

I see a good amount of Treks, and also have one. In terms of mountain bikes, Specialized is really popular.
