Windy and cold. Seems the time you make riding downwind never reduces the headwind penalty. :o

I can relate...Today forecast in Western KS: 54F Breezy south winds 20 mph with gusts of 28 mph. What we lack in hills, we make up for in wind.

I have been to Sioux City and Storm Lake. Yes the wind can blow there as well. You get more rain than us, so you don't get the dust though.

I know what you mean. Recently I posted that I had gone riding during one of our Santa Ana wind events. (Winds at 30 with gusts to 60-70 mph.) There was even on point where I was tucked on a downhill and was being pushed backwards UP the hill because of the wind. (Well, not really, but it sure felt that way.)

Wind and clydes. 2 things that do not get along very well.

Wind, I hate it. I'm about as aerodynamic as a large box.

terrain makes all the difference with wind. I went to college at U of Illinois - Champaign... I remember wind in the spring and fall that might as well have been a wall or a 2 hp engine depending on which way you were facing.

Riding now in mostly hilly to rolling terrain, wind is a factor, but never like it was out on the plains.

I agree with all of you. I went to U of I also the wind there was just stiff and constant. Today I rode 20 miles, the first 10 were south into the wind, at least I got a tail wind back. Still it was great just to ride in November.

But on the upside, we have some awesome sunrise's and sunset's on the High Plains!!!!

I have no problems with wind. Matter of fact, a few of us set out to do a 5000 ft climb (GMR) in 40 mph wind and bigger gusts (I don't member the number). Half way up, one of the lighter riders was blown over and knocked out cold.

I can dig it!:D

Wine wine wine :)

I don't really like wine. But I do whine sometimes. :thumb:

I guess I am just not hardcore.

The last 25 miles of my 200k today was into the wind. Ugh! Took everything I had left to keep a 12mph pace in some of the gusts.

The scariest winds are the kind that will push you sideways into traffic. I enjoyed that this past spring and it was a freaky feeling. I recall jumping off my bike, along with about a half dozen other cyclists, seeking shelter beneath a canopy. That doesn't happen very often where I am. Thankfully.

But in general, I hate windy days too. I feel like a hamster spinning in a wheel on some stretches.

Not a problem for me:

'Round here (Portland-ish area) we sometimes get winds roaring out of the Columbia Gorge along the Columbia River. Fortunately, it's possible to use the terrain to sneak up on them from the side, and then enjoy a 20 to 30 mph tailwind for 10 or 15 miles.
