Touring - First Overnight Help

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I am taking my first overnight this weekend and will be camping. I have purchased the tent, bag etc. Since I will only need one set of panniers, am I better off going with the front or the back?
Thanks
gaross
If I ride with only one set of panniers, they are at the rear. Makes bike easier to handle. Enjoy the weekend, the first test run of new gear is always exciting!

I believe the usual sweet spot given for loaded bikes is 60% of the weight in the back, 40% in the front. If you're only going to put weight on one end of the bike, it should always be the back.
Thank you both for your help. It is better to ask first than put the money out first and be wrong.

haha, it's better to ask first than crash... forget the money part :D
Have fun!
One thing I try to do is test new gear at home first. Unexpected surprises can sometimes put a damper on an otherwise great bike trip. If you have time, set your tent up once or twice in the daylight. You will be familiar with it just in case you end up in the middle of nowhere at night! Have a great trip!
