I know I can get a 105, Ultegra, or Dura Ace build kits, but what about the entry level kits (Sora and Tiagra). Fortunately I know someone who is a bike mechanic who offered to show me how to build a bike. I just can't afford the really good component kits. Also my next question is how old of a frame can I put a modern parts kit on?

Good question. I don't ever remember seeing a build kit for the lower end stuff.

Don't bother with Tiagra. It's not that much better than Sora and is no where near as good as 105.

funny you ask - just bought my girlfriend a new bike w/ sora's, and will be taking some of the components off and putting on better ones I already had.

so i'll be looking to sell new sora shifter-brakelevers/rear derailer/chain/rear cogs in a couple days. it's not the whole group but maybe a start. and I won't be looking to get a ton of money for them because anything is icing on the cake. let me know if you're interested and maybe we can work something out.
