yes, I helped train my mom's cat(s) to live on a leash. Took a lot more time of course. :)

A neighbor of mine did. It was years ago. It was the biggest cat I ever saw ! I've seen articles on bigger ones but THIS one was HUGE; really long & lean, a killer ! A petite lady would take on a leash for walks and the cat would slay critters all the while during the walks. She'd give it some leash and the cat would snatch a small animal, a chipmonk ussually from the tall grass on the burm and bounce back with it's prize. It walked on a leash alright, a tiger more than a housecat. It liked me though. So I suppose it you keep it from getting bored, the cat may allow a leash.

Dunno about a cat, but one of my good friends used to take her hamster out for walks on a leash. Depends on the cat's temperament, I suppose.

I've seen it done. I talked with the girl who did it and she said that you really need to start them when they're young.

Start em young, and make it a treat for the kitty. Lots of petting, cat treats, etc. with leashing so the cat comes to understand that leashing is a good thing.

I tried years ago and I'm surprised I survived. Have to think for a moment what was worse: putting a harness on a 12 pound angry cat or taking the harness off the 12 pound furious cat to the point of shutting her in the bathroom until she didn't feel like clawing me to pieces (for the record, 1 hour).

Nope. It was all bad. Maybe if I trained when she was a kitten, it would have been easier.

I have seen people walking their cats. But when I talked to them about, it sounded like their cat was the most serene kitten on the planet. Then I remember my cat was nicknamed "Vicious" as a kitten.

It's worth a try. If the cat goes for it then great! If not, you have an interesting story to acccompany the scars.

I read that there are certain breeds that take to the leash alot better than others. I don't recall which ones?

I have a neighbor that walks his outside all the time. The cat does well. Over the years I've tried. My cats always flopped over and refuse to move, like their legs are broken. I did have a cat, although he would not walk on lease, he would heel beside me and sit when I stopped. He followed me when I trained my collie and just learn by following I guess. That cat was more dog anyway.

Short answer: It can be done, with patience. Start off in the house just having the cat wear the lease and get use to the feel (this will be a halter style not around the neck). Use treats to make the cat come and walk with you. Once the cat seems comfortable, take him outside for short walks. Just remember cats are frightened by things that wouldn't bother a dog.
