Yesterday I had to use the first aid kit that is kept in the truck.

Lauren, an experienced rider went down hard yesterday. Fortunately, she got a ride back to the parking lot when I was just showing up.

Her right side (shin, knee, hip and hands) had their fair share of road rash and gash's. Some pretty nasty wounds. Lucky for her I keep a pretty good first aid kit in the car, because you'll never know. Unlucky for her, it was pretty old and some of the tape that I had to use was worthless and wouldn't adhere to anything. Not worry, the kit had plenty of stuff.

Note to self, go out and restock the entire kit today with new stuff!

I bring this up as a public service announcement:
1. If you can, keep a first aid kit in the car.
2. Take a first aid class, know how to use it. (Very important)
3. Restock it every so often. I failed at this one. Some of the bandages and tape were worthless. I was happy that I had enough in there to take care of her.

Take the first aid class first, then get the first aid kit. Your local Red Cross office should offer cheap classes. Trying to use a first aid kit without any training can easily make a moderate injury much worse.

At the very least, I carry a cycling designated2 oz bottle of anti-biotic . It's come in handy from bee stings to real cuts .

I grabbed a first aid kit at Tour of Ca, and I use that as my wallet ... waterproof, keep my cash nice and dry

BenRiden, great PSA for everyone. I also carry a pretty extensive first aid kit, primarily for coaching, but also for emergencies. I might also recommend that those that are reading this thread go through CPR training at the same time they take, or re-certify in first aid.
