Forum Suggestions & User Assistance - Best thing(s) about the New Format

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Taking Doohickie's advice, elsewhere, to not whine and moan about
the loss of legibility,
the loss of clarity,
the lack of searchability,

and to generally just suck it up and go with the forced flow,
I thought it might be useful to start a thread about the good things about the new format / new look.

So, here is my contribution:
I'll probably be getting more done at work, since I won't be making as many visits to BikeForums.net as I used to. I will probably check in from time to time to see what the pages look like, if the search works, etc. ... but I won't be here as often.

Hope they make it out of the world of being beta testers soon.

I like that they've left the basic structure the same and have not given into any temptation that might have been lurking around to combine forums, or delete forums.

I like that we've still got the mouse-over preview feature.

And .... that's pretty much it.

Oh wait ... I have been getting a lot more work done elsewhere too. I got a lot done on my portfolio yesterday and today ... the version that will be printed and placed into a binder. But I'm also considering how I might put all that infomation up on my website as well.

I hate that "feature". I'd turn it off in a second if I could.

The new s/w seems snappier to me, at least recently.

But we users aren't really in a position to judge. From what I've gleaned, the big problems with the old version were on the database and administrative side - things we only see when the whole site crashes. Which it frequently did, as I'm sure you recall...

I actually like the thread-reading window. Contrast is about right, everything, really, is fine. Except, of course, for the teeny print I'm typing in the editing box right now.

I would prefer the old style of thread listing, but it's not a show-stopper for me.
