I think i would do it, al long as you are still using paypal to transfer the money. Have the seller send you an invoice so there is something to fall back on if something goes wrong you can talk to paypal. or ask him to list it again for your price then buy it now at the price you agreed on.

Paypal does offer guarantees on purchases of tangible goods between private parties. If the seller can't prove he sent you the item by providing delivery confirmation from the shipping company, then Paypal should refund your money. But for private purchases there's no protection if you're unhappy with the item delivered. Protection for Buyers - PayPal (https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/Marketing/popup/UAeBay-outside)

+1 on using PayPal.

The best way to do these deals, in my own experience, is to have the seller set up a 'buy it now' just for you. You need to be there and click on it as soon as the listing shows.

I am not certain if PaYPal guarantees anything if the sale is outside of an Ebay auction.

My two cents.

This is how my Dad bought his Harley. Late 80's Evo...40k actual miles. Orig owner. Dude said he laid it down. He was 75 y.o. and set it down while he was stopped. Not a scratch.

$7,500

If you fell better about going through eBay, I believe you can have the seller set up a private auction for you.

If the seller is rated it is probably fine. I sold a bike and a canoe that way but was paid with cash when they came to get the bike/canoe.

I think you should just send the payment directly to me and eliminate the guesswork. I won't give a refund and you won't receive anything. Guaranteed. You won't be left wondering for days on end what happened. I'll still answer all e-mail and PM queries about your order and even send you pictures of what I bought with the money. Thanks in advance.

+1 on having them set up a "buy it now" and handle it that way.

On the other hand, its not like you are ever going to get any help from Ebay by going through them.
