Touring - Good woman''s saddle

Any recommendations on a good Woman's saddle for touring? The Fargo she bought came with a bloke's seat so the wife wants to swap it out.


One of our local LBS's have started importing in Brookes, so we are looking at these, any other long distance seat for Ladies?

My wife swears by the Pave saddle sold here (http://www.tandemseast.com/parts/seats.html).

She tried a Brooks and some Terry saddles but the Pave suited her the best.

Brooks and Terry along with most others are totally different concepts in saddles. Brooks is a whole other realm; saddle.. not soft leather, requires "break in". Many swear by them. A love it or hate it kinda thing.

First, a couple of caveats. I am a guy. Saddle fit is very personal, and what fits one person is torture for someone else. With that said, I have been using Fizik Vitesse saddles for several years, and they are the most comfortable saddles I have ever used. Fizik markets the Vitesse as a women's saddle in the US but "unisex" in Europe. Whatever.

I have tried many, many brands of saddles over the years, including Brooks B17 and Swift. I was using B17s when I picked up a Vitesse in a trade. It is more comfortable (for me) than a B17 and weighs less than half as much. Even better, you can often buy Vitesse saddles on eBay for $20-30. BTW, the Vitesse is virtually identical to the Fizik Aliante (which typically costs $150-200) but it is about 1-2 cm wider. It only weighs about 250 grams if you get the version with ti rails; the steel rail version weighs about 300 g.

My daughter used Terry's for a while but she has a men's Brooks Pro on her touring bike. She didn't have any complaints for 700 miles from Missoula MT to Astoria OR;) Nor for the last 4 years of commuting to work.

I use a men's Brooks B17 Standard, and it works great for me!

My wife has 3 bikes and 3 Terry saddles-- I think she likes them!

My wife used to have a B17, till she tried a Terry Butterfly...the more expensive Ti-railed version, not the chromo.
You'd think there would be no difference, but they are apparently like completely different saddles.
Now she has the Terry Butterfly on all three of her bikes.

For a while it was one of those giant padded beasts - we called it the "barcalounger", then Serfax Rx [men and women's version], a Terry Liberator [male], next Brooks B17 [ regular and S ], then a B-68. She use to make fun of my leather seats; "would rather ride a fence post, than one of those hard leather seats"
One day we were out riding, she was complaining about her then current saddle, don't recall which one. After several choruses of how uncomfortable the saddle was- I just stopped, had her get off of her bike, swapped the B-17 that was on my bike onto her bike, I got what ever she had. Then back to our ride. After a little while, I asked how it was. ok, was the answer. We stopped probably half a dozen times in the next 10 km to adjust the saddle. Up a little, down a little, forward & back, tilt slightly back and forth. When we got home, I asked the magic question - how was it. She again said ok. A couple weeks and a few rides later, I asked to get my saddle back.
She said thanks for the new saddle. So I ordered a new one for myself. Then when she got her touring bike, she won't ride out of the shop without a B-17. The Brooks, either it works or not- Great for her. Equally important is taking the time to make little saddle adjustments.
