Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Italian threaded, help...

I just picked up a beautiful Torreli road frame. The story was that a guy bought it 15 years ago and never even built it up. He put it on consignment at a shop and I picked it up. Being a newb, I didn't realize how difficult it was going to be to find a decent compatible crank set and bottom bracket. I'm looking for a nice 165 mm crank set and bottom bracket to put in this great frame. I'm having a hard time and could use some advice. Any recommendations?

a lot of bottom brackets are made with Italian threaded. I had a Shimano un54 w/ Italian (70mm) threading. You should be able to get any length you want meaning you can use any crankset you want. Just use some loctite when installing. Italian BBs have a history of falling out.

ive got a carbon fiber campy record bb sitting around standard 102mm from the 10 speed years. pm me if interested.

what you need is a set of Rd's (or generic copies) an Italian BB in a 103mm (really hard to find in JIS) What I did is Get a 107mm BB (italian) and spaced the Cog out 2mm To get the chainline right.

I don't see why you would be having a hard time finding a BB, Italian threading is a standard size, there are tons of them on eBay. You will have a harder time finding 165mm cranks, why do you want cranks of that size anyways?

ISO is easy to find The Miche is ISO and you can get the right length

there is a link to Italian threaded (70mm) BBs with JIS taper in an assortment of spindle lengths. Also, when I bought mine from JensonUSA, it didn't come w/ a plastic cup. They are fine BBs. I used the 107mm w/ a Pake crankset. Worked gr8

Iv seen vintage Campy Record BB's in Italian thread go for $15 on ebay multiple times. If you find a deal on some Campy arms, your good to go.

I would lean towards 103 as well. I like Jenson as one man recs. Just glanced quick, they've a few but didn't notice or look for a 103, saw 111. probably work but as I'd said, 103 was my initial reaction oupon reading your opening statement, go with the shorter, use the reg. SQ.. Crank and so be it. FORGET the new thready Outside crap GAHBICH !! Go simple. It a great old bike.. OUT with the horse s_ hit and costume jewlery man.
