What company makes a steel frame with a steel fork that is less than a 1000? I know Gunnar are supposed to be good but they come with a carbon fork. All I want is a good steel frame to replace my Casati columbus SL frame. Wish I could find some old stock Bianchi TSX or EL-OS. That would be sweet!

Thanks, but that's a full bike not offered as a frame only.

I don't think it's less than a grand, but Davidson makes nice looking frames. I've had mine for 23 years, when aluminum was something you wrapped chicken with.

The best steel road bike I've ridden is my ritchey, :) http://www.ritcheylogic.com/frames.htm when I bought it, it came with a steel fork. I know that ritchey now offers carbon forks, but am not sure if the frames come with steel forks. None the less, its a great frame and I'm sure it cost less than 1k. and it is a sweet ride...my friends that test ride my bike are surprised with the ride.

Mercian. They start as cheap as $600 and can go much higher depending upon options, braze-ons, paint and material. Stock to full custom. Lugged or lugless.

http://www.ritcheylogic.com/ These are frames, forks seperate.
An expensive designer, but worth a look anyway.

I like the Swiss cross frame.

Ha! I should read before posting. I assume NOBODY on the forum rides Ritchey 'cept me.
Now I don't feel so special. My bike is though, Ritchey frames are wicked.

I think Gunnar offers a cyclocross frame with a steel fork too.

The Ritcheys are nowhere near 1000 bucks, Jeff! Maybe on ebay perhaps, but aren't they like 1500 new?

I do a version of the Tephra using Zona tubing instead of Foco for US$1050. A steel fork painted to match with the proper rake to match the head tube angle is an extra US$199. Click the linky below for mo' info yo.

The frame I was looking for was the Niti, and I found a U.S bike dealer that had one @ $799 U.S frame only, if I remember.

But ya, the thought occured to me to contact you for my new frame when I do get the $$$$.

Man nice bikes are expensive, I went up 1000% in cost in 1 bike. $150 for an old Ritchey, now I want the $1500 one. I got kids to feed!!

From Thylacines website:
"Tephra

What's the difference between the hot boulders and rocks that get flung out
the top of an erupting volcano at a million miles an hour, and you aboard this frame?

Answer? Not a goddamned thing."

Right on!, sounds like something I'd like to ride.
>jef.

EDIT: The Niti seems just under $1000 new. Frame only. I still want!

The current Gunnar Roadie comes with a carbon fork, but the Road Sport has a steel fork. Look around their website a bit... I prefer the geometry and feel of the old style (pre-2004) Roadie, the new one is stiffer and a bit rough feeling (to me). The Road Sport looks like a nice choice.

Orbea! One of the nicest and best priced steel frames I've seen out there.

Bultek Sports has lots of different steel frames listed on their web site. Owner can be a little gruff on the phone but from what I've heard, he is reputable.

Good luck.

Raleigh Sport, but it's a very low-end roadbike, and I have no clue how good the frame really is...however if my search for a nice used roadie fails, i might jsut buy one and find out how it fares.
