Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - 1993 (?) Bianchi Sport SX

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

This here Craigslist ad caught my eye. Looks about the size for me, and I'm trying to change my Raleigh Technium (much as I love it) for something that fits me a little better. What do you think of this bike and the price? Would you go for it or would it take a price reduction? Or not at all?
Incidentally, I have one bike right now which I might keep or might try to sell to finance other bike purchases. I use my one bike for basically all my transportation except when it rains - work, going out, shopping, etc. I would use this similarly as well as probably taking it on some mini-touring - all-day trips from Philly to NYC or a little longer, that type of thing. Mainly it would be for rolling around Philly.
Thanks!

nice Bianchi! it is actually an '89 and it might be a bit over priced at $275. if this guy is a 'flipper' he did a lousy job of cleaning it up. the pedals are missing the toe clips but otherwise it looks in good shape.
I have an '87 and rode it to death the first year I had it. the frames are the same I know it will ride great. I just think the price might be a bit steep

Sorry to piggyback on this thread.... But is there a meaning to this 'SX' notation on Bianchi bikes? I have a Bianchi Strada LX from 1988 and I'm wondering if the LX, SX mean anything (e.g. geometry?). Can someone kindly shed some light? Thanks.

+1..... Bianchigirll .... ALL of it. Jude, it's not the worst deal. I'm a bit of a sucker for that which I like so....
Anyway, you ought to check it out. if for no other reason than to know that it's OK for obvious reasons AND to try it out for SIZE.... I can only add.. don't make a rash dec.... Dep. on what all is out there.
It's a pretty nice bike.

Spymaster as far I know it is just like cars. it just distinguishes between models or makes it sound fancy. over the years Bianchi has made Sports and Sport SS or SX in the same year and the SS or SX desination just means it is a better model. the Strada was the same thing there was a Strada and Strada LX. in '88 they shared the same frame but the LX had nicer kit affixed to it.
+1 Overpriced, and needs quite a bit of cleanup. If its for sale by a flipper, its one of those "find it, air up the tires and go" ones, not one that has gone through the bike and added value.
Is that front derailleur cage bent or damaged?

I think that is the factory shape of it. '89 seems about right for when they started the wacky bends in them
I just sold a Bianchi Sport SX on Philadelphia's CL about a month ago for $225. It was in way nicer shape than the bike you are looking at it. The one I sold was almost in my size so I rode it for several months and loved it.
The only downside to it was that my size is 66cm and this one was a 63cm so the customer base was a little limited. I would offer $175 and go to a max of $200.
Yeah, I was thinking of offering 150 or maybe 175 max for it. It DOES look like a nice bike but not one I'm willing to shell out almost 300 for...in that case, I'd just save a little more for something a lot nicer.
Of course, it may not fit me, it looks like it could be a little on the big side, but only one way to know. Luckily the guy lives a few blocks from my job so no problem to check it out.

Hey thanks for the insight Bianchigirl!

$225 in Tampa in ready to ride condition. +$25 for Celeste.
Well I just bought it for $200. It's damn nice, light and in great shape, just needs to be wiped down a little (especially cause I had to walk it in the rain to store it at my job)
Also, the hoods are uneven - not sure if somebody was totally incompetent putting them on, or if they liked the right hood higher up than the left. Oh well. I'll probably just leave 'em that way until I feel it's time to replace the bar tape.
The weather's absolutely miserable, so we'll see when I actually get a chance to take it out for a ride. Also need to pick up some toe clip pedals for it, since right now there's these weird what he called "track pedals" on there

that sounds like a good deal. those are actually a type of platform pedals. getting the levers lever can be tricky for a novice, likely someone changed the stem or something and screwed it up. if you care to PM me an address I have a pair of basic metal clip and strap pedals I'll send you for it.
