I have what seems to be an octalink spline BB and Specialized cranks. Is there a specific way these are supposed to go on the BB because I don't see any differentiation in the splines on the BB. Are you just supposed to push the cranks onto the BB? I can't seem to get thme in all the way. Rubber mallet?

Rubber mallet? All the splines are the same.Spindle splines have to line up with crank arm grooves.Remove self extractors if present so you can see what's going on. Start by hand or rubber mallet,Tighten fixing bolt to proper torque.

Even with a mallet I can't seem to get the cranks on all the way. Any tips on this?

Even with a mallet I can't seem to get the cranks on all the way. Any tips on this? You have to use the crank fixing bolt to the proper torque. Although you could probably beat them on with a 5 pound hammer it would likely do the BB cartridge no good.

What is a crank fixing bolt? It's the bolt that secures the crankarm to the spindle.
