Foo - Tell me about a time your parent(s) were proud of you.

Was it something you did that went above and beyond? Was it something that they wanted you to do, but you perhaps didn't? Tell me about a time your parent(s)/guardian was proud of you.

I was talking to my mom last night (she's 80) and was telling her I had bought a sewing machine and all those little lessons she gave me and the hours I spent watching her work (sewing is how she paid the bills and kept us fed) had stuck with me.

She seemed pleased that I had been mending, hemming, and sewing (she was a child of the depression) and would of course come and give me and my daughter's lessons.

She has a lot of trouble using a sewing machine these days... and it something she has always enjoyed.

It's a simple thing really but it seemed to mean a lot to her.

Just out of college and living in my own apt, my mom thought it time to go house hunting. I told her I didn't want to go that I wasn't interested. The next weekend she DEMANDED I go. She was upset that I was paying someone elses mortgage and went on to lecture me about responsiblity, money management and so on. So to please her I went along. After half a day of going from place to place not showing any interest, she turned to me and asked why I wasn't so enthusiastic.

I told her that I was in escrow and if things work out my new home would close in a couple of weeks.

She was flabbergasted I did this on my own without the help of her or any of my older siblings.

I didn't tell her earlier because I didn't want to jinx it.

My parents have always been proud of me. Two most recent times was when I finished a half ironman in 102 degree temperatures and having a massive asthma attack which drugged me through the mud for many miles. Another was purchasing my second home -income property...a third will soon come.

I am proud of me that my parents are proud of me because they do not think I ever spent a night in jail. j

lets see, both parents that's a tough one. I think they were both at my high school graduation. It was almost embarrassing the number of plaques and awards and had my name called. I can still name the only two people who were higher in my class.

I think my parents were proud when I came home on my first motorcycle. I have moved out at that hadn't talked to them for a bit and was working in town at a motorcycle shop. mom took a pic as I left

That's easy. When I won first place in a forensics competition in high school. She's proud of me now too though, since I did well in the military, didn't fall apart at becoming a widow and my son is now in college doing well. At least that's what she tells everybody! :)

When I moved out of their house.

My mom is/was always the most amazing parent in the world. Seriously. I'm talking Mother Teresa here. I never thought I'd be a very good parent - I'm short tempered, not terribly patient, etc. But as it turns out, I'm pretty damned good at this...and my mom tells me what a good mom she thinks I am on a regular basis. It's truly the most amazing compliment I've ever gotten.

When I was in grade school and won an art contest that displayed art from schools all around Philly, the kids art was dislayed in the Phila. Art Museum and John Wanamakers (the Dept store) I took first place at the Art museum and second at John Wanamakers. =0) They never did return our drawings!?

When I came home full of MD 20-20 one night and turned my mothers sterile white bathroom a shade of purple when I could not get to toilet fast enough. She was real proud of me.

my mom was proud of me when I got thrown out of art class on the first day.
I got stuck in basic art on my first day of school because it was one of the few classes left.

I got put in rotc instead because everything else was full.

My father and I were often at odds regarding career. He went to college late, became an engineer, and pretty much worked for one company for his entire life. I on the other hand went directly into business, started my first business for someone when I was 19. As soon as I would get settled in a job (2 to 3) I would change it for another. Drove my dad nuts. lol

I explained to him that times had changed and this was the way to succeed. About 10 years ago he and my mom sat me down and admit I was right and they were wrong and they were proud of me.

But I think he still hoping I will go to college someday. lol

I can't recall anything. All the things I can remember were stuff in elementry school which doesn't count. I guess graduation, but that isn't a big deal anyways.

When I got my Bachelors in only 8 years, not the 10 that they expected.

My father was proud of me when I bought a headstone for my mothers unmarked grave. It had sat unmarked for 7 years and i coughed up the cash for a nice little headstone once I could afford it.

I played Joseph too! Although my mom wasn't thrilled -- I was picked because none of the boys signed up for the Christmas play and I had short hair.

I can't recall when my mom said she was proud of me. I think I've disappointed her every step of the way - grade school grad, high school grad, dropping out of uni, shacking up with my boyfriend, not getting a gov't job like my brother, no children, oh the list goes on...

Great. Now I'm depressed.

They have always been proud. It is their job, they are parents. Probably the only unconditional thing in most people's lives.

Happened this month. Won my university's student concerto competition after working my butt off since June in preparation for this one audition. Now they get to be even prouder, as in February I'll be giving a solo performance accompanied by the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra.

Dang Dood! I'm an eight year man too! Complete with a 2.01 GPA!!!
