I have a vintage group I'd like to sell, but I'm wondering if it's worth more separate or as a whole?
Some might be interested in only parts of the group, driving up prices, but I'm thinking it always seems smarter to keep things together.
Thoughts?

You need to do whats in your best interest. Parting out or selling as a whole will depend on the group.

thatguy >> It does depend on the group; some groups are sought after as such, these same or other group components can command the same or higher prices sold PER each seperate part.
HOWEVER... A few component models in any given brand can be considered by buyers as overly average.
They can be bid on or looked upon as any old der., crank etc. in which case you must sell as GROUPS.
You ought to state what you have in mind.

In general, separate brings the most $. But it does involve multiple listings rather than a single sale. How much is your time worth?

I agree, I do not know how much you sell on ebaay but having multiple auctions end at one time can be a pain. then there is the shipping and fees to consider.
what type of kit are we talking about? IMHO somethings should be kept together.
+1 I have been tracking some groups lately, and I am seeing the groups sell for A LOT more than individual parts. It really depends on the group. Certainly handier for someone looking for a group to buy it all at once versus piecemeal.
Other parts separate probably nets more.

+2 to Bill. Seems like selllers in NC think that 8-sp 105 group is worth more than a bike with an 8-sp 105 group.
When I list a bunch of parts on eBay, I almost never list the group, as I'm not willing to risk, say, $146 for a group I think is worth $200. Sure, I could set a reserve, but I've learned that if I sell 4/5 items of a group, I'm OK, and as all you C&V folks, now somehow, something always comes up where you may be glad you didn't sell that particular item.
When I sell them individually, I list no more than 2 items to end on any given day, so I only have to box up and send 2/day at the most. It's a whole lot easier, and if someone wants combined shipping, I'm glad to hold the item until the other auction(s) end(s). I also get less confused, and let's face it, that's the real reason.
Well, depends on the group... I would say that highly demanded groups like early Dura Ace and pantographed Campy, would probably sell better as a group vs. individual components. Lesser stuff and recent stuff, probably do better as components.
