After reading the myriad postings on the merit, or lack therof, of triple chain rings, I went out on my extremely hilly evening 20 miler...and on the first long climb, dang, it hits me...although I almost never use the granny ring (and am thinking already of swapping for a double) on my Orbea Volata, I do find it harder to grind up a long, steep one, in the middle ring and biggest cog then I remember grinding up those hills years ago in my 39-26...I know, gearheads are saying "dude, you are trying to maintain the same cadence in a 42-26 (or maybe even 25)!"
Now I really want a double already....
Why did I post this? Who the heck knows?
It's nice to be back suffering again...

I run a single chairing 38t. Period. Up mountains and down hills.
This makes me the 'King of pain.' Not Sting.

That sounds like a nice place to be, Orbea huh? Maybe someday if I ever go roadie  I'll check one of those out for a 'freedom' spin.
Bet your pretty fast for an old guy riding that bike.
